[Zachariah is in a full blown panic. He doesn't have a clue what's going on. All he knows is that he's in a cell, and cells mean Deadworld.
In his panicked state he doesn't even notice that he's knocked his journal open. In fact he's not aware that it's even there.]
No no no no no no. No! Not again! How did they find me? I can't do this again! I

The one day she chooses to actually poke around? Yeah, Zachariah, prepare to encounter your first gryphon.
She makes a sound of surprise in the back of her throat as she sees the human. She's a big girl, though, and doesn't have nearly enough time to move her horse-sized bulk from his path.
You ready to barrel into a gryphon or trip yourself up while trying NOT to, Zachariah?? :D]

She closes her eyes and just remains there as his hands ghost over her feathers, which fluff up in response.]
Pay it no mind .. You arrre upssset. I am ssssorrrry to be the one that had to tell you.

Wasn't your fault.
[Though to be honest this might have come a little easier if it wasn't from a gryphon.]

She breathes in slowly, side heaving as she files away his scent amongst other things, and exhales just as slowly. She actually snorts in response, turning her head just enough so she can look up at the man.]
It wass in a way .. not yourrr coming herrre, but my explanation of the eventss. You werrre alrrready out of ssorrtss and it could not have come at a worrrsse time.
[There is a beat of silence as she studies him with her head tilted in that direction.]
I am sssorrry to be the one that had to tell you. I am cerrrtain therre musst have been an eassierr way ..

Doubt it would have gone better if anyone else told me.
[Okay he might be saying that mostly for Zhaneel's benefit. At the very least he wouldn't have panicked as much.]
When you find an easy way to tell someone their home is gone you come find me again okay?
[There's a hint of humor in his tired voice.]

She withdraws her head, but remains close as she settles onto her haunches once again.]
Even sso, I am sorrrry that I had to tell you at all .. It is trroubling newsss forr all of uss.
[She notes the change in his tone and her facial feathers fluff up in response, her entire form looking less tense.]
I sshall cerrtainly do sso .. [Her head tilts to one side, ear tufts perked forward and posture alert.] My name isss Zhaneel ..

You really don't need to keep apologizing.
[He smiles ever so slightly at her response. Initial shock and panic aside, she's actually kind of cute, almost like a big talking dog with wings.]
Can't wait. You can call me Zachariah.

She actually refrains from apologizing for apologizing.
As he smiles, Zhaneel looks up at him again.]
It is a pleasure, Zachariah .. Although I do wish the circumstancess were different. Do you know which room you arrived in? There is a journal within that you shall wish to keep with you. It is the means of communication in this place ..

[And he goes right back to be being confused again.]
A journal..? Alright I'll keep that in mind.
[There's no reason that's any weirder than anything else he's just gone through.]
I think I can find it. Didn't get that far before I ran into you.

It will look like this, save for your own name being upon it. You may write, speak or pass an image of yourself within it that others might respond to. It is more than some here have ever had and far less than others, but it works well enough.
The letter from the Keep's Lord is within its first few pages .. it possibly explains it all far better than I might have hoped to ..

Hope it comes with instructions.
[As for that letter she's talking about well, he might just go ahead and get rid of that. He doesn't need any one else telling him that his world is fucked.]

Not hardly. It's a trial by fire scenario here nearly every day. Punishments are dolled out by the Lord of the Keep based on transgressions done upon other residents or damage done unto the Keep or its direct properties. Punishments here are archaic by most standards and I would not recommend testing them for yourself unless you have a penchance for the rack or stocks.
[She looks at him steadily, one feathered brow arching. She continues in a completely flat tone, but he just might pick up on a trace of teasing.]
Do you have such a penchant, Zachariah?
Reply
Uh, last time I checked I don't. In fact I'm pretty sure I have a strong allergy to it.
[Starting a fight is always the farthest thing from his mind anyway.]
