Characters (in this chapter): India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Russia, China

Warnings: My limited grasp of Middle Eastern politics, graphic descriptions, mentions of torture.

Summary: Uh, I need to be banned from the kink meme or monsters like this happen? Essentially, Scotland leaves the UK, which gives Northern Ireland an excuse to up and out as well, which leaves England and Wales all alone. Oh yeah, and this somehow leads to World War Three.

India didn't really mind having people show up on her doorstep unexpectedly; Arthur had done it frequently enough back in the day that she quickly got used to it. However, that had mostly been in the middle of the day, or some sort of similarly polite time. She reached for her alarm clock, squinting at the red numbers that informed her it was 3:46am, which was much too early to be doing anything.

But there was still someone at her door. And they weren't moving.

With a sigh, she rolled out of bed, padded out of her bedroom and to the door, peeking through the window at the top.

"Namaste..." she called, blinking into the darkness.

"Sister, are you in there?" came the frightened whisper. India's eyes widened, and the opened the door.

"Afghanistan, what are you-" the other nation looked terrified, glancing behind her nervously. India pulled her into the house, closing the door firmly behind her. "What's going on?"

"They're chasing me!" the smaller Nation gasped, looking slightly out of breath. Her gun, strapped to her back usually, was conspicuously missing. In fact, she looked like she'd run from her house to India's without stopping to change out of her night clothes.

"Who's chasing you?" India pressed, though she had a sinking feeling she knew already.

"Iraq and Iran and Saudi Arabia and I lost Pakistan on the way here and I don't know where she is!" Afghanistan babbled, her hijab slipping until she fixed it. "Uzbekistan said she was thinking of joining Russia no matter what her economy is like! What if she helped them catch Paki? What if they've got her already? They can't hurt her, I-"

"I won't let them hurt her." India assured, jaw tight. "They wouldn't dare come here."

Afghanistan shook her head. "No, they said they would! They're not scared of you, even if you have nuclear weapons, they said they have both Russia's and North Korea's and France's now which means they have more than you and, and!" he descended into panicked noises. India, meanwhile, was staring wide eyed.

"Hold on. Hold on, they said no nukes." she reasoned. "We promised no nukes. Besides which, I'm just a financial supporter of the WDF. The NWO have no business with coming here."

Something hit the door with a loud thud. Both Nations jumped, Afghanistan letting out a squeak. India squared her shoulders, tense as she looked through the little window at the top.

Tajikistan stared blankly back at her.

"Is it Uzbeki?" uttered Afghanistan. India shook her head.

"Tajikistan. But we're not safe yet; she's undecided on her alliances, remember?" India took a deep breath. "Stay quiet, and back up just in case." Hearing the smaller girl behind her shuffle back, she continued louder. "Muna, what are you doing here?" All she got in return was silence. Which was concerning, because usually Tajikistan was quite the chatterbox. "Muna? Are you alright?" Again silence. The angle of the window made it hard to see the other Nation's face. But India didn't open the door just yet. "Muna? Muna! Tajikistan!" Still silence. Finally, she opened the door.

Tajikistan jerked, a spasm of the shoulders akin to a sob. She looked up.

India sucked in a quick breath. Afghanistan screamed.

Blood poured out of Tajikistan's mouth, her eyes had a misty gray film, her clothes were ripped and torn. Around her neck was a sign, written in Saudi Arabia's Arabic handwriting.

She talked. Which is nice, but we don't like snitches.

Afghanistan, you're next.

Russia's office was always a little chilly. China had gotten used to this fact by now, and was therefore braced for the change in temperature as he walked from the hallway into his ally's rooms. The door was open, surprisingly, but he knocked on the wood anyway. Russia blinked up at him innocently, then a smile broke on his face.

"China!" he greeted, indicating one of the chairs in the room. Yao took it, though he was a little sick of sitting after the long car ride here. "How are things going with them?"

"It is harder to break them than we first thought." China admitted, lacing his fingers together in his lap. "France is being frustratingly stubborn, aru. He's gotten to the point where he refuses to speak at all. Scotland is particularly interesting though; the skin and nail attempts to grow back over the bamboo." There was a clinically professional nature about his tone, no real attachment.

"I see." Russia replied, tapping his pen on the desk thoughtfully. "But it is only a matter of time, da?"

China nodded. "Scotland is certainly closer than France is, aru. I get the feeling that if we show France that Scotland had broken, he will quickly follow." A small smile at that. There was a sort of sweet revenge in this. True, Scotland was certainly not his brother, but seeing those green eyes in pain and holding back pleas of mercy was almost as good. It had been a long time since France had been in China's good books as well, especially after that incident with Tibet. And he would have his chance with the others as well. Foolish as it was to believe Russia's promises, China was once again a superpower, and would achieve his own ends any way he had to.

Ivan was beaming at him. "Very good!" He stood from his chair behind the desk, walking around it so he could sit on the table and be closer to China. "And I also have a suggestion for you."

China raised his eyebrows in interest. "A suggestion, aru?

"Da!" Russia looked like an excited child. "I would like for you to enter the war officially."

There was a thoughtful silence. China regarded his comrade contemplatively. "I see. This of course will further that final plan of yours, aru." It wasn't exactly a question. Best not to question madmen too much.

"Da, that is right." Russia responded, nodded. He towered easily over the sitting Nation, even when leaning on the desk. "I thought you agreed with my plan?"

"I do, aru." China sighed, leaning back in the chair. He didn't close his eyes, in the presence of Russia that was a dangerous gamble. "I am so tired..."

"I know, comrade, I know."

Notes:
- New keyboard! Yaaaaaay!
- Namaste - "hello" in Hindi. No idea if it's right, as usual.
- Afghanistan - yes, I basically crossed over with the Afghanis-tan comics at this point. Making up OCs is hard mmkay? Anyway, India and Afghanistan are like bffs irl as well, recent issues with terrorists aside (but then, everyone's having trouble with them). Politicians often refer to them as brother (lol) countries.
- Pakistan - Used to be a part of the British Raj, currently part of the Commonwealth, naturally leans toward the WDF side, unlike the rest of the Middle East, most of whom were part of the Soviet Union. She and Afghanistan get on quite well, though her government tends to be a little... unstable at times. Also, she has nukes, and is the only Muslim-majority state that does.
- Uzbekistan - according to the Afghanis-tan comics, idolises Russia. Which is cute. And also terrifying. She's on his side, and was once in the Soviet Union (duh). Often quarrels with Pakistan. And yeah, I don't know much about her and she probably won't ever appear again so MOVING ON.
- Tajikistan - You have no idea how often I have misspelled her name. Anyway, she's sandwiched nicely between China and the rest of the middle east, with Russia looming in the north and Afghanistan in the south. She has good relations with both Iran and Afghanistan, so she didn't enter WW3 because she didn't want to upset either. Was once part of the Soviet Union.
- Muna = Tajikistan's name. I forget what it means, just that it's Arabic.
- Bamboo torture - It ain't pretty. A piece of bamboo is stuck under your fingernail, where it grows rapidly, separating the nail from the skin. Which is excruciatingly painful, as anyone who has ever lost a nail will know. It's slow enough that Scotland's fast healing would go faster than the bamboo, making this method exponentially worse for him.
- China's grudges - France and China got on quite well for a long while, until the sudden rush for colonies happened in the last part of the 18th century, carrying on to the 19th century. Then France got all pervy and tried to get it on with China who most certainly DID NOT WANT. France also helped England during the Second Opium war. On top of all this, when China was using Tibet as stress relief, France stepped in and said this wasn't cool. Which didn't make things any better between them at all. Additionally, Scotland is England's brother, so nuff said.
- Notes are longer than fic. Only in Hetalia. orz
