I think we'll see better results in the rebuilding of Christchurch than we've seen in say, Haiti, because NZ is a first world nation and they have the infrastructure to use funds well and rebuild. I've been looking a lot at the situation in Haiti and we're talking about doing a second auction for them this summer. Conditions in Haiti break my heart.
Also, Bob Parker is an excellent mayor. He'll get things done (is already getting things done) and ensure the government acts in the city's best interests.
This personal view of the state of the city makes interesting reading, too. The public buildings (especially churches, which were often made of stone or brick) were hard hit, but some of the suburbs are a real mess too, and people there are having a really hard time. :-(
I just have to say thank you again for doing this. It means so much that people are doing so much to help us rebuild both physically and emotionally. We are all very committed to making a stronger, better city that will make us all proud the way our lost city did, and everything people like you do helps us make that dream a reality.
