In all the years I've been buying stuff from Japan, including the orgy of DVDs three years ago, I have never had a problem. The envelope had been slit on one side and resealed with clear tape. I had Customs down in L.A. examine it. They said that it was like that when they got it. I'm kinda O_o with them telling me that, but who there would want Takarazuka tickets? Can't imagine Lupin III otaku in that office... Anyway, I'm kinda glad now that I had to change the trip to March. :-/
In the future, if something similar to that happens again, you can still go to the theater and tell them the tickets were lost but if you tell them the row and seat numbers they will check 5 minutes before the show starts and, if it's empty, they will make up a pair of fake tickets (just pink pieces of paper really) and allow you in. I had to do that the very first time I saw a Takarazuka show ^-^;
Thanks for that info, that makes me feel better. However, if my package had looked like it had been caught and damaged in a sorting machine (which I had had happen once or twice) or other accident I wouldn't be so upset. But this was deliberate theft and I now assume that the tickets will be for sale on eBay Japan, Yahoo or Rakuten etc. If I showed up at the theater and someone else uses my tickets: who do they believe? And if the other person bought the tickets in good faith... I can imagine a lot of thorny problems developing. :-(
