Too British for my own good? | Johanna Nield

I’ve reached a rather devastating conclusion this evening: I’m far too British for my own good.

I’m modest. I can’t confidently identify any brass instrument, so how can I possibly blow my own trumpet?

Dude, I SO empathize. 20 yrs in the US, almost, and I'm STILL too British for my own good! FWIW I find the pushy author thing too cringe-inducing to follow anyone who does that anymore, even thought they are FANTASTIC writers and I wish them all the best--I just don't want that much aggressive marketing on my feed/friends page/facebook/anywhere.

So the fact that you are still someone whose posts I read is a testament to the fact that they are still readers out there who prefer the more subtle approach!

Thank you, hun :)

Aggressive marketing makes me cringe, too, and when faced with it in real life my immediate reaction is "Run!".

As an author I have a Twitter feed, a Facebook page, a website and a blog. I'm aware that I need to maintain a regular online presence, otherwise I may as well give up altogether, but I find self-promotion embarrassing and I always hit that 'submit' button with a fervent prayer that I'm not coming across as too pushy. Your response here is very heart-warming and reassuring, and I appreciate it. Thank you :)

I agree with sykira, I run away from pushy/aggressive marketing, no matter what the "product" or how good it is. If anything it's more likely to make me determined NOT to try whatever they're attempting to push on me, and in some cases to actively discourage others from trying it too..

You stick to your own way of doing things love, it might take a little longer, but at least you'll be happy with how you handled things :)
