Dude, the depiction of those evil evil foreigners has definitely not improved since the 1970's. I like the first movie better - the story is more tidily written. Of course, the second has Huang Xiaoming, so... /fidgety fangirl And my dear Louis Fan plays the hot-blooded cannon fodder so well.
I've watched so few kungfu movies, I totally forgot how bad the foreigner-bashing can get. (I even managed to miss Once Upon A Time in China... so...)
Agree with you that the first movie was better. The fight scenes were spectacular in both, but I thought the first had more heart, somehow.
I have to confess to not being up to speed on most Chinese actors, so I can't share the squee on Huang Xiaoming and Louis Fan. Anthony Wong though, would be another story.
