Last week.

When I leave the prison for a hospital visit, a guard escorts me. This time it was a guard I'd had before, which was nice, because we could catch up on the things we talked about last time he escorted me. His name is Andre. He has two kids, brothers - so we talk about them a lot ( Read more... )

sean, medical stuff, birds, friends

I'm glad you're back Mr. Ken. The birds are so much happier when you're around!

But I don't think it's so strange to miss it here. Even if it's prison...everyone likes having somewhere there are people waiting for them, and look forward to seeing them, right?

It's nice to be back, Lauren. You can call me just Ken, if you want.
I don't know if it's true, but I do like thinking the birds are happier when I'm around. I know it's true for me when they're around.

What you say makes sense.
How've you been?

Glad to hear there was, like, no bad news to hear! Getting outta here for a while must've been nice.

The ambassador's so cool, isn't he? He's super nice. Aahnruhd's, like, an interesting game. Kinda' hard! Jacques compared it to pool when we played it, and I guess he's kinda' right, they are similar.

Hi, Mimi. I spent most of the time indoors, but it was nice to be outside at least part of the time.
It sounds like you had an interesting time here. Do you think you'll play more Aahnruhd?

Eh heh, well, about that...

Jacques says he's up for a rematch, but I, like, might have to get him back in a better mood first. I was kinda' the one who hit him with my ball. I swear it was an accident, though! And I did tell him to be careful. But sure, I'll probably play again!

I should point out that it's not an accident if you try to hit someone.

I'm glad your visit went well and that the guard and nurses took good care of you. I did my best to look after your birds, though they mainly blamed me for you being gone. Well, maybe having someone to fuss at made them feel better. Sometimes that helps.

We often miss what's familiar, what we're used to. Even if it's not something we ever saw ourselves coming to regard with fondness.

We'll have to see about that game sometime soon. As for aahnrühd--it isn't bad, but you've got to keep an eye on the other players.

I won't be surprised if I see a seagull in your room one of these days.

I think the postcards were a good idea.

Thanks for watching the birds for me, Diego. Animals don't like change, but you're right - having someone to complain to probably helped.

Yeah, I think that if I play aahnruhd, I'll do it with people I don't have to keep such a close eye on. Like you.

I'm glad you think the postcards were a good idea.
It's nice to be back. I'd have brought a gull with me, but they'd have found it during the search for sure.

I'd read that you were away for medical reasons. I'm glad to hear that you've returned safely, and of course, I'm delighted that the book and the mints were waiting for you upon your return, Mr. Ken.

It makes me very happy to hear that you're enjoying the scenic views of Cohdopia! I often leaf through that book when I'm feeling homesick. I visited many of the places pictured in it when I was a boy. I lived in a city, but my parents believed very strongly in taking us to the country as often as they could.

The bay leaf mints are a bit odd, aren't they? Certainly a unique taste. I like them well enough, but they're not my favorite. I prefer hazelnut castles.

It's a wonderful thing to have friends to come home to, I think, no matter where home might be.

Thanks again for everything, Mr. Palaeno.
I'll never see the places in the book you sent for myself - but looking at the pictures, thinking of your happy memories, it's almost better. It means more, somehow.

I don't have a big sweet-tooth, so I think the bay leaf mints are just right for me.
I'm looking forward to seeing some aahnruhd played really soon - I'll let you know how it goes.

You're most welcome, Mr. Ken. It was my pleasure. Ah, that book never fails to remind me of a happy memory. If you'll turn to page 42, that forest was the first place I ever went camping. My brother and I got lost, and my father had to rescue us! I fear it was my fault, because I was chasing a butterfly, but it lead us to a place where I found a rock with a fossil in it. I still have that very fossil on my desk here at the embassy.

I'm glad I sent you the bay leaf mints, if you're not overly fond of sugary things. Most of our traditional sweets are much sweeter, though we do have an array of savory snacks available at the embassy.

Oh, aahnrühd is an exciting sport to watch! Especially among highly trained players. My husband and his friends from university sometimes get together to play a reunion game, and it's quite a thrilling spectacle.

It's nice hearing you talk about your life, Mr Palaeno - you sound like an interesting person to know.

Do you ever play with your husband - or do you like being in the audience more? From what I've heard about the game so far, the reunion game must really be something to see.
