Checking in.

Summer is officially here and everyone is feeling it. Everyone has behaviors that help them cope with the heat. When I was a kid, I'd get up in the middle of the night and wet a washcloth in the sink. Then I'd take it back to bed and and lay it on my pillow. I remember in the morning my mama would be mad I'd gotten my pillow wet, but it was ( Read more... )

That Thoreau guy's got a point, I think. But, like, I think when people reach extremes of almost any feeling it's like you're almost not you anymore. I've been there a couple of times. It's really scary.

It...sounds like you went through a lot before you got here, Mr. Ken. Like, I know it may not seem like much coming someone like me, but um, if you ever need to talk I can come see you anytime! (By the way you were right, Rosa is kinda' cool. I met her after Jacques' little accident.)

Yeah, extremes of feeling can be scary. I've been there too.

What Thoreau is saying to me, though, is that you can only be free by acknowledging guilt and regret, and sorrow. If you try to avoid them because they're unpleasant, or push them away because they're frightening, you'll never come to terms with them, or with yourself.

Thanks for the offer, Mimi. It means a lot.
Come see me any time, I'll give you some of the bay leaf mints you wanted to try.

Have you talked sports with Rosa? Hope you like the Lakers.

Like, easier said than done, I think. I know I'll never regret some things, but like, obviously I wish things hadn't ended up the way they did. But I do feel bad about a lot that happened, so like, maybe I'll get there someday. I have a lot of time to think about it anyway.

Aw, thanks! A bit--I've never been one for basketball really, but like, I'm learning more about it hearing Jacques talk about it all the time. (It's a fair trade, like, considering he doesn't mind me talking about cars, I guess.)

It is pretty hot in here, isn't it? There's not too much to do about it, though. Sometimes I wish I could fly like a bird.

If you're done with it, I'd like to read that biography. I'm fond of Thoreau, and I enjoyed that quote. There's a lot of truth in it.

I know that, no matter what happens, no matter what you did, he'll still be with you. Those we love don't ever leave us.

I hope writing this out does make you feel better. You can always talk to me, if you need to.

I'm done with the Thoreau biography, so you're welcome to it. I'm glad you liked the quote. It really resonated with me, too.

Yeah, I guess if we were birds, we could fly somewhere cooler, but at least we can sweat, which seems better for humans than walking around with your mouth open when it's hot. Just my opinion.

Thanks, Diego. For everything.
I'm thinking of lifting later, if you want to meet up in the weight room.

Thanks, Ken. And you're welcome.

Ha, yeah, you've got a point about sweating, but it might be worth giving that up if we got wings in return. I know I'd like to try really flying, just once, outside of dreams.

I'm definitely up for some lifting. I could use it, I'm sure.

You slept with a wet cloth on your face? Didn't that give you a rash?

No, not that I can remember. But it wasn't really soaking wet, more like damp. So maybe that's why.
Kids get some funny ideas.

Did your son have any strange habits when he was a kid?

When I was a boy, I liked to go bathing in the Fraain River to cool off. It was always quite refreshing, although sometimes a little too cold, and then I'd have to warm up, and I'd grow too hot again and have to jump right back in the river.

Fortunately, Cohdopia's climate is rather temperate.

Also, I'm glad you did the meme as well, Mr. Ken, and I hope it helped. I do hope you're well.

I think what made me want to do the meme was your explanation of it, Mr Palaeno - and you were right. It did help.

I'm doing okay. Hope you're the same.
I always like hearing your stories, they really brighten my day.

I'm so glad I could brighten your day, Mr. Ken! And I am even more glad I was able to be of some help to you.

I'm doing rather well myself, although I've been terribly busy lately at the embassy.
