Blaine is walking around his room in his short denim pants and plain gray socks. He has on his Footloose t-shirt, and for some strange reason, Blaine feels great today. He likes dancing, and he also likes the idea of turning a town around through song and dance, so maybe it's his Footloose shirt that's making him feel this way.

However, Footlose was on Broadway when Blaine was four--too young for him to know he could have begged his parents to let him go see it. But now? Now, Blaine's six years old, and he's old enough to go on the internet and illegally download soundtracks from musicals like his older brother showed him how to. So, Blaine sings a fast-paced melody and turns his feet as quickly as he can to imagine that he's on stage in front of hundreds of people that are just as excited to watch Blaine have as much fun as he feels like having.

He stops moving his feet as soon as he hears his mother calling him from by the front door.

"Blaine! Sweetie! Come meet Mrs. Galven and her son!"

Right, Blaine's mom is forcing him to have a play date today with the new neighbor kid. Technically, this kid lives a street over, but Blaine's mom apparently ran into Mrs. Galven on her morning walk, and turns out they both have six year old boys that are virtually friendless. Blaine doesn't like the kids on the playground at school, and the kids on the playground don't like him. That's that. If only Cooper wasn't already in middle school, Blaine would have someone to talk to at lunch. However, this is not the case anymore.

Blaine blushes at his mom calling him sweetie and quickly pounds his feet on the wood floor as he makes his way to the front door to see who this Mrs. Galven and her son are.

The first thing Blaine does is stop slightly behind his mom, looking at the two new people in the room with small curiosity and great shyness. The boy he presumes to be Mrs. Galven's son is a little taller than Blaine and has bright blond hair and freckles.

Blaine knows he's supposed to be nice, but he doesn't know who this kid is, so he'll wait for his mom to tell him what to do.

"Sweetie, this is Jeff. He lives just down the street from us, and Mrs. Galven and I thought it'd be nice if you two could go play in your room while we talk in the kitchen for a little while. Jeff, honey, if you get thirsty or anything, just let Blaine know."

Jeff has been staring at Blaine for a few moments now, but Blaine finally takes the opportunity to manage a small smile at him as they walk back towards Blaine's room. As they walk into the relatively large bedroom, Blaine looks him back over and decides to let the Jeff feel welcome. He isn't without manners, he's just learned to not expect other kids to want to be nice to him.

"Hi, I'm Blaine. This is my room."

Jeff's eyes fall over Blaine's posters of the moon, Toy Story, and West Side Story, and then sets his gaze back on Blaine. "I like the moon, too."

Blaine smiles hopefully. "Did you want to play space pirates?"

Jeff nods.

They do the one obvious thing they can do: they decide to build a fort made out of pillows and pretend it's their spaceship/pirate ship.

Waiting for their moms to move farther into the kitchen before running through it to get to Blaine's parents room to steal the pillows off their bed, Blaine pokes his head around the corner and then waves Jeff to follow him. "Coast is clear! Go now!"

They run across the kitchen, Blaine and Jeff's moms turning their heads and smiling back at each other as they continue their conversation like their little boys didn't just run across the room. They think that Blaine and Jeff are playing spies. They are so wrong.

Blaine and Jeff only manage to find ten pillows total, but they decide to make a triangle shape with them and put three pillows on each side, the tenth pillow going to the side where they are going to throw the LEGO bombs at the space aliens.

The battle for the moon is about to begin.

They spend a few minutes assembling their weapons together, combining five green legos together to make a grenade--don't even think about accidentally stepping on a red lego--and making sure the rest of their supplies will last them. Blaine took the fighting chance of being caught in the kitchen to snatch four cherry Capri Suns and a box of animal crackers from the kitchen pantry, so they have enough food to survive the long night in space.

Jeff throws the first red Lego--a canon bomb that is meant to take out the first group of aliens. "Arrrr she blows!"

They continue on like this for a good thirty minutes, destroying every creature that dares to come by their battle ship. At one point, Blaine stops to think that maybe, just maybe, Jeff will be his new best friend. He wonders if Jeff will be going to the same elementary school and maybe even be in the same class as he is in the beginning of September. Continuing with their game, they tell each other "good hit" and "Over there! Kill him before he gets to the ship!", and about fifteen minuets later, Blaine's room is completely trashed.

Both boys take a great risk in leaving their ship to collect the legos in order to restock their supplies, and then the game starts all over again for about twenty minutes, this time space goblins have joined the aliens.

At the end of the game--once the aliens and goblins are all defeated--Blaine and Jeff figure that their moms aren't going to be done talking any time soon. Jeff yawns and says he's tired from helping his dad unload boxes today for Jeff's room since they're still moving in. Blaine says they can take a nap if Jeff wants, but secretly, Blaine could use a nap now, too. Fighting space aliens is hard work.

Blaine gets out of the fort, no longer fearing space creatures since the game is over, and he pulls the comforter off his bed and turns the lights off before crawling back into their pillow fort.

"Do you mind sharing this?"

When Jeff shakes his head, Blaine smiles and feels himself relaxing just over Jeff's acceptance of sharing the blanket with his new friend.

"Are you going to go to Oaktree for school?" Blaine asks, trying to hide the hope in his tone.

Jeff nods and shuts his eyes, his front lying towards Blaine without thinking it weird to lie this way facing his fellow space alien fighter. Blaine inwardly jumps with joy over the fact that he'll now get to see a friendly face on the playground come the fall and shuts his eyes soon after, enjoying his first nap with his new best friend. Friends who take naps together, stay together.
