This editorial is spot-on. While I personally am on the side of the concealed carry activists, not the disarm everybody activists, neither option is a solution. A person who intends to kill as many people as possible will do so, whether with guns, explosives, samurai swords, or poisons ( Read more... )

I'm curious what you think of the idea of open carry; I have to say that I rather like the idea - as someone who's likely to remain unarmed - that I would be able to tell who IS armed. I wouldn't agree with banning CCW - but if open carry were the rule, there would (I presume) be much less demand for it.

As far as the tragedy in Colorado goes ... I think the few I've heard bewailing that there wasn't someone in the audience who was armed and could fight back are just delusional. This guy was armored - the chances of taking him out of action before he could target a defensive shooter as a threat were microscopic (though of course at the moment, such a person wouldn't know that).

Open carry also works for me, although it does remove some of the tactical advantage of surprise. It could just as easily prevent some incidents, as a person might not target someone else who is openly carrying, so I'm unable to predict how it work in the long run ( ... )
