[Drabble] Shika/Chouji, Gen

Apr 08, 2005 19:06

Mostly Shika/Chouji but one at the very bottom which is just... general.

Heritage
They had been best friends for years when they found out that their parents were friends as well, which made it almost infuriating. It explained the knowing smiles in an annoying way.
So Shikamaru in his logic, decided to throw their always-knowing parents one that would make them blink; He and Chouji became lovers.
And then they found out that was nothing new, as well. Goddammit.

It Just Makes Sense.
Chouji was thirteen and unpopular. Shikamaru was thirteen-going-on-forty, and popular but too apathetic for girls to approach. Aside from their mothers, and the mothers of their friends, between the two of them their grand total of kisses from the opposite sex equaled two. Both from Ino, on their birthdays.
So it almost made sense to the two of them then that they should stick together, since everyone else seemed to be getting paired off in some weird ways, even if those pairings didn’t traditionally keep very long.
So while Kiba was being threatened by Neji for hitting on Hinata, the two of them stood on the sidelines with their hands in their pockets and gave running commentary. When Naruto came back with Sasuke, they watched the resulting drama with Shikamaru laying on Chouji’s stomach.
While the rest of the shinobi in their year were getting married, they yawned and snacked on chips, placed bets on how long it would take the new couples to have children, and moved in together.
When Ino had a son, Shikamaru collected and then told Chouji that it was almost their turn to find girlfriends and that his mother was nagging him again. Chouji kissed him on the corner of his mouth and said that they still had time to wait.

All in a Day
Shikamaru felt like being lazy. Chouji felt like eating. This was normal, and natural, and happened at least four times a day, but it was nearly twilight this time, and somehow they found themselves on the roof of a building, laying back and watching the sky turn interesting colors.
“Chip?” Chouji asked, handing over the bag. Shikamaru took one and munched on it, then yawned.
“Boring day,” he said, and managed to will himself enough to roll over onto Chouji’s stomach. Contrary to popular belief, Chouji wasn’t so much soft as he was firm, almost like a large, warm, breathing bed. It was Shikamaru’s favorite spot to be lazy.
“Only because you slept through training,” Chouji said and pulled slightly on the ends of Shikamaru’s coarse hair.
They stayed like that until the sky turned dark, and left when they both grew cold.

Job Description
“Hokage-sama!” someone called, and he was delivered a message by one of the Jounin, whose name he had forgotten. “It’s a request for help from the Grass country.”
“I see,” Rokudaime said, and dismissed the man. He hadn’t started reading it when someone else entered with a stack of paperwork. “These are the reports on the new genin teams, Hokage-sama.”
“Thank y-“
The door opened again. “Hokage-sama, I need to speak with you about the construction on the outer edge of the village.”
Another person entered, “Hokage-sama, you said today you would sit down so we could begin carving your face into the mountain!”
One of the Council members opened the door and came in to stare at the Hokage. “Hokage-sama, didn’t we have a discussion last week about you going to the ramen stand alone and in the middle of the day?”
Naruto dropped his head to the desk and hoped he would be lost among the paperwork. As the door opened again, and a fifth person began to speak, he muttered to himself, “This wasn’t in the job description.”
