What is it with my family and technology?

Fair enough, my elder brother is fairly competent with the stuff; even if he does break it a lot it's not because he doesn't know what he's doing.  The rest, however, are useless.  They won't even attempt to solve problems on their own any more, they just come and pester me until I fix it for them.

That was the first thing I told my dad to do to the remote (he's done this to me before). It's not even that I'm particularly good with technology myself, I just have more common sense than the rest of my family put together. My dad is old and senile and will be put in a home soon, so he can be excused. My middle brother on the other hand has no excuse for being so utterly inept.

Hey! My Dad is older than yours and he is not old and senile!

How terribly ageist of you. :P

Just because he can drive a car doesn't make him not senile. It's just an ingrained Pavlovian response: you see a car, you drive it. Doesn't prove anything. Same goes for his bookselling.

Aren't families awesome? We have a grand total of four remotes in our living room (one for the video player, one for the DVD player, one for the satellite box thing and one for the TV itself). They all look completely different, and it's actually not a complicated system at all. Yet neither of my parents can work it, so whenever they arse it up, I have to come and re-set everything and it means that they are unable to record anything for me when I need them to unless I set it up myself before I go out.

It's just what families do, I have concluded.

What was the show that you will not now be able to watch, out of interest? Oh, and have you watched that DVD yet or are you going to save it for a ... calmer evening?

Mansfield Park. It's not like I'm heartbroken over it, but I was going to get around to watching it at some point. Eventually. In the spirit of scientific research. Just to see how bad it was, you understand.

The one you gave me? I've watched it already. I think I mentioned it ¬_¬

No, you actually didn't say that you had seen it. I would be interested to know your thoughts! I'm guessing by the ¬_¬ that you hated it, though :(

"By the way, I have also seen Mansfield Park (spend today writing my essay? sod that). It was pretty good, although there was a slight ick factor in Fanny and Edmund being cousins (can't exactly blame the film there though). "

This is why you should record all your conversations; it's totally worth it on the offchance that you can use it to mock and belittle other people later on.
