Stinky deal not so stinky after all?
I have to admit, that from a political perspective, this deal is a real stinker. There are a lot of awful, unfair and demoralizing pieces to this deal. Thinking about it from another direction, thinking of it as another stimulus, makes it a lot more attractive of a package and really clarifies where Obama was coming from in accepting this ( Read more... ) -
Prove it: Homosexuality in the Turkish military
Apparently there are two exemptions from compulsory military service in Turkey: disability and homosexuality.

About that fast train...
China just set a record; fastest unmodified train. There have been specially modified TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse-I love the way that sounds) and Shinkansen trains that have gone faster, but this is going to be the everyday Beijing to Shanghai, 800 mi. in 5 hours, train. *sigh* Maybe when we finally get around to building our system we can use ( Read more... ) -

Local lunacy
The two GOP primary candidates for US house district 17, vying to unseat Chet Edwards, got into a conservative pissing match (debate) yesterday with Curnock calling for censoring movies and tv like in the 50's and the Flores advocating massive funding cuts for the UN (US Contr.), DOE and others.
