I'm putting in a few hours every day when I get home from school, and so far I haven't really burned out on it. Also. People seem to think the Junction and Draw systems are bad...am I bad for liking them, then? o.o I mean, I think Junctioning is an awesome way to customize your characters and up your stats without having to train exhaustively, and Drawing is practically my favorite thing to do. >_> Seriously, I LIKE sitting there and pulling out 100 of any new spell, and I get excited and start wondering whether I can Junction it to anything. It pissed me off a bit when Selphie, Zell, and Seifer were too low-level to Draw useful amounts of spells from the soldiers and monsters in Dollet.
Speaking of which, I like the battle system too. It's not the most interesting thing in the world, and sure I like FFXII's and KH's better, but as far as separate-screen battling goes? I like it a LOT more than FFIX's. I like the way Summoning works, I like how you can Cast magic without depleting your stock, I like the trigger on Squall's gunblade. At first I really liked how I only needed 1000 experience to get to the next level, although now it bugs a little because people don't level up omgfast because the monsters give oh-so much exp. And really. They do.
My favorite part of the game is how the monsters level up as the characters do. It was SO awesome when I was training Squall, and it makes the gameplay interesting. One-hit KO enemies are nice for leveling up, but GOD they are so boring. My second-favorite part of the game? The SeeD tests. Answer some true-false questions to get more money? Heck yeah!
So. See. I liked the battle system so much that I kinda, uh. Got Squall to either level 30 or 50 (not sure which). ...Before I got Ifrit. Normally, you get Ifrit after about 20 minutes of gameplay -- I think it took me something like seven or nine hours, because I Junctioned Shiva and Quezocatl (o god I know I spelled that wrong...) to Squall and just. Thwacked Grats. I made a LOT of money selling off Silent and Sleep Powder, and I also Drew a bunch of spells from them -- Sleep, Stop, Slow, and Berserk are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Those worked REALLY well for Junctioning. It was frigging ridiculous when I went outside -- here was level 30/50 Squall, with level 12 Quistis tagging along gaining levels preeeeetty slowly. Because SQUALL was getting the death-blow exp, 'cause Squall was doing lotsa damage. I eventually said "fuck it" and grabbed Ifrit, trained with him Junctioned to Squall for a while, and then ran off to Dollet.
That's when Seifer and Zell couldn't draw for shit. I trained Zell (and Seifer) against the Dollet soldiers for a few hours, moved on to get Selphie, and then trained HER and Zell against the local monsters. And when I got back to Balamb island? I trained them some MORE. ^__^;;;
By the end of the first disk, Squall was in his late nineties, Zell and Selphie were in their thirties, Quistis was about mid-twenties, and Irvine was late teens (he's early to mid-twenties now, thank you Flashback). Rinoa... Rinoa was level 12. >_> Yeah. Didn't train her much.
Now, I'm in the floating-Balamb, with Rinoa, in the training center. Rinoa is now mid-thirties (thank you, level fifty Grats! Thank you, level seventy T-Rexaurs!), Squall's at 100. As far as GFs go, Shiva and Quezocatl have been 100 for a while, Ifrit's in his late eighties, Siren and Carbuncle are in their thirties, the Brothers are in their twenties, and Diablos is in his early teens. I just got him yesterday -- lemme tell ya, fighting him with just Squall and Rinoa? And a very weak Rinoa at that? Was NOT easy. But hey, I did it, and now I have an extra GF. =D I also had to go back and grab the Brothers with Selphie, Zell, and Quistis, before they went to disable to missiles. And by the way, I really really love those three. Train, train, take me away~...
I've figured out that, if Rinoa levels up once every nine minutes (which, based on my last save, she did), it'll take me another 13 hours to get her to level 100. Which I WANT to do -- simply because, in battle, her dog randomly shows up. Most of the time it hits stuff. If Rinoa's a level 100? It will be randomly doing lots of damage. I kinda like the thought of that.
Enemy: *BAM! Here ya go, large amount of damage! =D*
Dog: *LASSIE TO THE RESCUE!*
Enemy: x.x *ded*
Victory Music: *plays*
...Yeah. That's what I want to happen. Not sure if it will, but it's a possibility. Plus, the more damage Rinoa does, the less useless she'll be next time I have to split everyone up. Plus, it's training the GFs, and that's always helpful.
Besides, level 70+ dinos give 700-800 experience. How can I NOT use this as training?
