"I disagree with this vehemently. You should not feel forced to be friendly, behave in a certain manner, or decorate for others. that betrays the intention of celebration and decoration at this time of year. If you do it. do it for yourself becuase it makes you happy."
I think its just badgers way of justifying putting up light to those who might disagree base on their ideological views. Simply put "here's the reason if you don't like it, bugger off"
First off, your being Christian does not mean your words are ever unwelcome :3
And yea the point at the end there was just a rationalizing so that I had a non-cheery reason to decorate the house.
There shall be lights.
And we don't have blackened snow ... we're far enough away from Newark, JC etc that we have nature. Not a lot nature, but some nature. Unless the dog eats it.
Put up lights just because, they look nice & think of it as seasonal urban camouflage... Just put up like one window sticker that says "Happy Holidays" fairly generic enough...
I have an idea of what I'm gonna do. My Christmas stuff is usually very secular. Lights, light up deer, light up snowmen ...
I go equally all-out with the tree, mind you. This year, since money is tight, I will re-use the decoration from two years ago - Red and Gold theme, mostly hanging balls, tinsel but no beads, candy canes, white lights. No rain.
Actually all of Christmas' traditions are really pagan winter festival/solstice traditions adopted by Christianity as a method of converting pagans in Europe. Lights in general I believe are actually adopted from the festival of lights found in other religions.

... Might do ribbons instead of tinsel.
The dog gets decorated, too.

And I don't think is militant ... *trails off losing thought*
Kwanzaa tree out front with a Menorah on top!
A sleigh with a "Baby Jesus" inside in the front yard! X3
But really... I'd say talk also to the house peoples. Random lights are delicious... in October...

I actually expected the most resistance from him, cause he dislikes electric bills the most, and seems to dislike Christianity the most.
