Mr Longbottom and Professor MacMillan have come up with a few very clever ideas regarding the use of shrinkleaf. I'd like them both to fill you all in, in as much detail as possible, and the subject can be discussed here ( Read more... )

It won't, initially. But a little assistance for the sake of safety, I shall leave that with you.

Meet me on Canna. I've planted shrinkleaf on Sanday - it's just a little bit at the moment.

Oh, one question...Can your Maggie flame on demand, or does she need to have a harpy as a target?

Canna? I take it you want Maggie along too. Probably best if you fly with us, just in case someone sees us. Don't want them calling Sergeant McLeod at Portree even if he's unlikely to be sober I don't know if you knew this, but I can't cast anything while I'm in direct contact with Maggie.

And no, at least not on MY demand. She pretty much does it at will. Harpies, food, or anything that startles or annoys her.

Shrinkleaf on Sanday eh? Interesting...

I had gathered as much, about not being able to cast. That's why Maggie is so useful - her fire isn't magical in itself, being a natural part of her makeup.

You see, shrinkleaf can be only be killed by fire. Plain, ordinary fire. And it's hard to kill that way, due to its high water content. Merely setting it alight with a torch won't do. That's one reason why it was banned from the British Isles.

What I hope is that you can persuade Maggie to flame at the plant on Sanday while I wait on Canna. Then I can go and assess the damage.

It's just an idea. I don't know if it will work. But if it does then it could be extremely useful in battle. I'm sure you see my reasoning?
