I literally made a noise like this BAVKJABSDLVJHBANCNSKLMSNC JHBWRGVJCE{PAMOSLKNFX before I'd even read it. And then I did read it. And then I died.
I have to sit through a two hour french class now, but please know I will be able to think of nothing else other than how utterly perfect this is. And then I will return and write a proper review.

Okay, Firstly. I love how you capture their spark. Mackenzie's (terrible) impressions and their teasing and the flirtiness (because they totally drove the entire crew crazy with their shameless flirting when they first met).
Secondly. YES. Will post the break up would have been so torn, because he must have been so entirely in love with her, and suddenly she's off to the Middle East, and he would have been so angry, at the same time. And that realisation that he doesn't have a say in her life anymore. I love that. You captured that wonderfully.
And now, askdcnadcawoecm. I love the line they walk between fond familiarity and professionalism and hurt. You capture their nuances so well. Like how Mackenzie is always so personal with him, but then every now and then she'll turn it around and throw their professional relationship at him. One of my all time favourite lines is in 1x10 when she (calls him Billy) and tells him that at Northwestern she ( ... )

ASDFGHJKL thank you so much omggggg you are the actual best. and yes omg in the greater fool when she says 'No, Billy, it was you, I was just producing' or something like that and ahhhh yes one of the favourite lines of the entire show because that is their relationship down to a tee. As his EP Mac brings out the best in Will and that is, initially, what they built their relationship on, but then Brian (who brings out the worst in Mackenzie and lord I have a lot to say about those two as well) brings out Mackenzie's worst impulses and it all builds into this massive fucking mess and five years later they're only just beginning to deal with it but BASICALLY YES SHE CALLS HIM OUT ON HIS OWN FEELINGS Y E S SHE JUST KNOWS HOW TO MAKE HIM CLICK (BECAUSE THAT'S HER JOB) BUT SHE JUST TAKES IT ONE STEP FURTHER THAN ANY OTHER EP HE'S WORKED WITH DARES TO BECAUSE SHE'S FUCKING BRILLIANT.
AHHHHH THANK YOU I LOVE YOU OMG

There's something I especially like about the "2" segments. Especially "and he’s praying really, really, hard right now that there isn’t a god about to levy some fucking karma on her head." ... I think people usually assume that he would be in denial about how freaked out he is over her going overseas, so I really like that he's so open (if only with himself) about wanting her to be safe.
And this: “Will I know you’re there. God, please just pick up.” ... gaaaaaaaah, that's so painful and beautiful. I really, really need somebody to write something where he does pick up the phone.

I found the '2' segments surprisingly hard to write given it's generally my favourite will/mac era to explore, so yes thanks oh my god that means a lot <333
hahahahh you don't want me to do that omg I cannot write fluff to save my fucking life
