(don't) cry over spilt stuffing

My Dad gave me my first teddy bear on my first Valentine's Day, which was now 25 years ago. Teddy has since been hugged so many times (and had faced death more than once at the jaws of my old Golden Retriever) that he's essentially faceless, save his eye sockets that are always leaking stuffing ( Read more... )

its unfortunate that I dont get along with my parents all the time, but I know exactly what you mean. And its almost as if when we do get along its even more special just because I never take those moments for granted now. Along with stephs entry, spending a week in disney with 11 of my family members was crazy difficult but it was so amazing. I heart disneyworld. Dont you? :-P

Some people might think I'd be jealous or bitter to see other people think fondly of their parents, but realizations like yours just renew my hope that there are decent parents out there, that flaws can be endearing and not damaging or alienating. It's too late for the people who raised me (see, I won't even call them my parents... does that say more about them or me?), but it at least I know that there's still a chance for me to be a good parent, that 30 years from now, my child will regard me with a similar awe and respect -- if I ever decide to have kids, that is.
