I'd be inclined to chase up why that cancellation took place. It may, of course, have been something genuinely urgent, but an explanation wouldn't be out of place.
I'm amazed at the lack of love for bubble & squeak and its cousins! Bah. Their loss. ^_^ Come to think of it, I do (sort of) have the essentials in the fridge - some nice new potatoes, and brussels. =:9 Lately, if I've wanted starch, I've gone with rice and/or beans, but there's so much to be said for potatoes, not to mention the flexibility - boiled, sauteed, deep fried as cubes, slices, or strips, mashed roughly, or puréed finely.. =:9
BTW, do you watch MasterChef? The new season began recently, just passing the second quarter-final. I always find it quite engrossing, hoping for particular folks to succeed, lamenting their failures, and cheering them on, even if they'll never know I exist. ^_^
I watch Master Chef off and on. Usually when I'm visiting my mom because my brother is obsessed with cooking shows (though he almost never cooks) Actually mom was complaining the other day that he makes her watch TOO many cooking shows ;-)
