[food] muffins and pasta

Feb 11, 2007 17:35

a few months back, i was baking scones and muffins and biscuits every week, until i realized that gorging on baked goods all the time might not be the most healthy thing. but it sure is nice to have a freezer full of homemade breakfast things to take to school when i'm in a hurry, or to serve with brunch on the weekends, so now i've decided to test ( Read more... )

yeah, at the risk of sounding ocd about food, i actually cut out all pastry and ice cream and the like for a while. last year, i seemed to have no trouble maintaining my healthy weight with reasonable diet and moderate exercise, but i guess my metabolism is slowing again :/. so more exercise, less sweets for me ( ... )

hee, well, i am a little ocd, but thanks :). you're probably right about the sugar crash aspect of too much sugar, hmm. i definitely get woozy and spacey if i don't eat often enough (about every three hours... it's a pain). i think i'm more a sucker for pastry and baked goods than sweets in general -- i can live without candy (though i'll eat it if it's around), but i looove croissants and scones and pie and cookies. especially in the morning, or toward the end of the day when i need a snack ( ... )

the eggs aren't necessary (and neither is the oil or salt, strictly). you can try the recipe with just water... in fact, now that i'm looking at what i posted, i wonder if i used that version, or one that uses water, eggs and oil together. hm. you might do a google search for fresh or homemade pasta and see what recipes come up. here's another one i have on my computer ( ... )

Total tangent to this entry-
latemodel recommended I talk to you, as I was accepted into UChicago's MAPPS program. I already have a MA, but am considering doing it. Thing is, I don't want to move again after a year. Hmmmmmm I am trying to transition into anthro from media studies.

well, the MAPSS program is a good way to get better anchored in graduate anthropology, and can help you be more competitive for a phd program. but chicago also makes a lot of money through that program by taking students who applied to their various social science phd's and didn't get in. did they specifically suggest you'd be more likely to get into their anthro dept the next time around? where did you do your first MA, and where are you still waiting to hear back from? feel free to IM or email me if you want to talk about this elsewhere :) -- jordan at styleovercontent dot com.

Considering I applied to anthro having never taken a single anthro course I kinda expected to even get rejected from MAPSS. (I was taking a risk.) My degrees are from Brown and The New School.

I am afraid to say where I still haven't heard from out of a weird sense that I'll be jinxed if I do ;)

I dunno, one faculty member at UChicago said that "well of course if the anthro faculty know and like you you'd be more like to get into the PhD program." but that's not exactly a solid guarantee.

well, at this point, most if not all programs have already notified, although some wait to send out the rejections in case they need to go to their waitlist. i got into irvine off their unofficial waitlist in april of last year -- but generally, if you haven't heard yet, it's not very likely ( ... )
