For downloaders: The vid file is zipped; if right-click + "save as" is giving you trouble, try simply left-clicking and you should be good to go.
I like feedback, whether in LJ or as e-mail. Brief comments are just as welcome as long in-depth analysis (though I'm certainly a fan of long in-depth analysis should you be so inclined).

It took a village, or maybe just an ensemble cast, to get this vid finished. Thanks are due to
vonniek,
renenet, and
fan_eunice for tireless enthusiasm from the very beginning; to
dualbunny for high-res HD source files of the first three-quarters of the season; to
elynross,
vonniek,
katie_m,
oyceter, and
greensilver, whose responses to, questions about, and suggestions for the draft helped me clarify in my own mind (and, I hope, in the vid) what I did and didn't want to do at various points; to
merryish, for buoying me up with a pep talk at a crucial moment, for articulating what the vid is really about, and for helping me brainstorm better options for the ending; and most especially to
12_12_12, whose generous and insightful beta comments helped me decide how to handle the toughest lines and find a thread of connection through the draft's most haphazard sections -- her comments were some of the most helpful and insightful I've received on any vid ever. She's totally my hero.
I didn't get around to watching Heroes until relatively late in the first season, but within a month of
watching the first few eps (courtesy of
laurashapiro) I'd
latched onto this song as a possible vid. It got bumped to the top of my vidding queue by
vonniek and her
VividCon Auction Bidding Cabal: when I volunteered for the auction,
I offered either to make a vid to order or to let the bidders select one of my existing vid ideas, and
Vonnie organized a small army of generous women in the service of the latter cause.
Note: This version of the vid is a bit different from the version that showed at VividCon. Laura had warned me that the auction can be tough for people who vid slowly, as I tend to do, and she was exactly right. What this meant, in practice, for "People Get Ready" is that I finished an acceptable version for the VividCon deadline, walked away from it for three weeks, rewatched it, and saw a lot of things I wanted to tinker with (and a few things I wanted to rip out and replace altogether). Also, I figured out how to use AE to make text move! I am perhaps unreasonably gleeful about that. ::whistles::
