If this is paradise then I hate to see hell.

Do you recall what made the first man leave paradise?

[At first, Gene is a little pissed off by this message. It seems to be telling them to be content with their station, that they'll never figure out how the place works because there are too many secrets.

...Then he notes the odd composition of the words. It's almost like verse, the way things are broken up, but it doesn't seem to be like any sort of poetry he's familiar with. No meter or rhyme pattern he can discern.

But there IS another pattern. And if it reads the way he thinks it does, it's a good suggestion. He decides to test it to see if he's right.]

That is quite the suggestion. But you have to remember, chaos
Makes it hard to put such things aside. And there will always be a
Sense of loss in times like this.

Good thinking. I'm sorry, my words betray me.
Now might not be the time for idle thoughts.
Be that as it may, we would all do well to be
Careful at a time like this.

I know how easy it can be to let your thoughts run around at
Will. Especially when things go south.

You may want to take a walk to clear your head.
Too much time brooding can cloud things up.

[Gene checks back later to see he's hardly the only one that's caught on. While it's good that other people get it, leaving so much proof of how the code works may not be good for its inventor.

A couple of ink blots appear on the page. Not the thorough sort that usually strike out conversations. These are seemingly random, the kind that appear when someone is careless with their pen. The 'random' trail also oh-so-conveniently covers "Makes", "Sense" and "Will", among other words, getting rid of the more awkward and telling parts of his writing.

well he gets it even if I didnt lol man_genius April 30 2010, 23:59:52 UTC

Don't be such as downer, sphere-friend.
Think about it--if this place wants to do something to us,
it's gonna do it regardless of what we say or write.
That's obvious.
Easy solution? Quit using the journals altogether.

No. Why should we all simply cease writing?
Merely because the tree has a will? 'Twould be
Safer to say there is no easy solution.

[Stare stare stare. And lots of pentaps. She knows Reed can't mean what he's writing, and it's obvious he is putting it into some kind of code.

Unfortunately it is going to take her quite some time to decipher it because she has absolutely no experience with this kind of thing. But she'll be watching this entry very, very closely.]

Sorry. Failed the first time. Looked too hard. spandexisyouth May 1 2010, 00:09:32 UTC
There is merit to pondering and taking time, and there
Is also worth in thinking. Writing right away our thoughts on
Paper can lead to pain for others. But I do
Not know where the balance is. I write of balance
In between thought and writing. I will continue to watch
These as well.

XD It's fine, this is hard orz heretic_hamlet May 1 2010, 00:32:15 UTC
Yes.

But can our eyes see even the
Fabric of the tree's tapestry?
Is it worth puzzling over any
More? Do you truly believe minds
Common as ours could see its design?

It is! But fun. spandexisyouth May 1 2010, 00:44:24 UTC
How could we do anything except think over the
Many puzzles of the Tree? It is the theme many
Write on because it is what we live in and
On. The Tree is our new home, the
Cloth that are lives are draped in.

It seems this is a problem we
Could use more thought on. I do not know where I
Stand some days. But I will not tune
Out what I read.

So you think these questions are
Too common to ignore? Youth, why
Would you of all people think of
Those? I'd thought your 'routine' was
Seeking reprieve in exercise from
Such questions! That's why this
Paper is here, after all.
