Arden/Daveis: Aftermath

Oct 29, 2007 18:38

Backlogged aaaall the way to the three-way log because I am lazy.

The clinic was oddly empty today. Daveis swept the floor for lack of anything else to do, mind on...things.

She should write to him. No, don't. Maybe?

Arden had by now somewhat wrapped his mind around what happened. The idea was still somewhat unsettling... but it was something that he would have to learn to accept.

"Hey kid," he greeted as he came through the clinic door.

Daveis blinked at him for a moment, her first thought going 'But Lethe isn't here...' before grinning and hugging him. "Hey!"

After an awkward moment, he hugged her back. "Slow day?"

"Yeah, haven't had much to do at all. Everything is nicely organized again!"

"So I see," he smiled, settling into a chair. "So... how are you?"

"I'm good! Healthy, it's usually more active than this, and the person who I tried to figure out what was wrong with wrote back and said that she's okay again! And that I was right, which was pretty hard to be when all I had was the opinions of someone who wasn't medical." She took up the broom and started sweeping again, finishing up the corners.

"That's good to know," he nodded. "And... how're you feeling... about the other day?"

...

Why did he have to bring that up?! She was doing so well.

"Fine."

The pause told him otherwise.

"Really?"

"Mhm!"

...

"Okay. If you say so." Though it was obvious from his tone of voice that he wasn't exactly buying it.

"And I do." She was, really honestly. Really. "How are things at your end? Busy, I assume."

She was a terrible liar. "Mhm, right."
He nodded. "A big to-do over another Noba blood, mainly. Lethe says hello, incidentally."

So what if she was :<

"That's good! Is she okay, too? You're taking care of her, right, not letting her starve on the street or overwork herself?" Sigh. Independence was all nice and stuff, but sleeping on the streets was not. "Oh, the wedding as well, I'm sure."

He's going to call her out on it before the conversation is over :<

"She's fine, keeping busy too, which is why she hasn't been over to cook and gossip lately."

He smirked slightly at the mention of the wedding. "Well, everyone's talking about that. Except the King, of course." Hint hint big-fucking-HINT.

Awww :<

"Don't let her overwork herself! She is just that type, she is just like you. Honestly, you two are the worst."

Hint...not taken! "Everyone in the city is talking about it, too. Happier that it's a Lenster woman, and one that is of Noba blood, instead of a foreigner."

Lols :<

"Yeah well you know how well I listen. Don't expect her to listen any better."

Siiigh. "Yes. Except the king." Bigger hint :|~

"Honestly both of you should just live here. Then I can make sure you don't overwork, and get sick, work more, and die. And where would that leave me? Alone and familyless."

She sideglanced, but didn't mention anything to that.

Arden snickered. "Yeah right, with all the room we'd have to live here."

Arden tapped his foot expectantly.

"...as if you two need much room. You could share a bedroom." Mwahahaha.

Ignored~

Arden coughed.

"Well, there might be plenty of room if you were to, say, suddenly move out, wouldn't there?"

"...well, probably. But that would both defeat the purpose of having me take care of you two, and where would I go? I don't have anywhere else in the world to live. Not even the orphanage, I'm too old."

Sigh.

"Perhaps a palace," he teased.

"Don't be dumb. It's not funny." :<

"No, it isn't. But the King has been noticeably distant- moreso than usual- of late. Have you spoken with him or written to him?"

"No. I've been...well, until today I've been busy. And I'm sure he's been, so. No point, right?" She stared at the small room, and then started rummaging the cupboards. Did they need to be organized in the last two hours?

"Hmmm." And Arden couldn't believe that he was about to suggest this...

"Maybe you should."

"...maybe. Later." No, nothing new appeared in the cupboards since she last looked.

"How do you feel about him?"

skljfds the hard question. "He's." What? The king. About to be married-king. And she? Was abandoned by whoever her parents had been and only luck had given her a new one. "Nice."

"Nice," he repeated, clearly expecting more than that.

"Mhm. He's very nice."

She didn't want to do this make it end ;_;

"I'm sure." Sry :<

"...?"

"He must certainly feel... more than the same to behave like he is behaving right now."

"What?"

"He's the King of Lenster, about to marry a Noba-blooded woman and maintain the bloodline for another generation... and he's sulking."

"Forced marriage to someone he's never met and has no choice in is hard. She's not horrible, right? Mean and nasty and cruel?" Oh, what a cruel world that would be if she was!

"She seems a nice enough woman," he nodded. "I've had her checked out. She'll make a fine Queen. But she's not what's on his mind."

"Oh, that's good. We don't need a mean Queen for the country, after we got rid of the mean King." Good. She wouldn't be mean tempered and evil...

"You're about as good at dodging the point as I am at dodging rest," he stated flatly.

"I am not!"

"You most certainly are."

"Am not." Pout.

"Are too." :|~

"Am not."

ksdajksdjkakjsd. "I'm not getting into this," he sighed and stood up. "Write to him, okay? Even if it's just to slap him into shape. I need to get back to work."

skjfds aww pout! "Are you sure? Okay. Don't overwork or I will hit you with my staff I swear!" She scowled, but then sighed, smiled, and hugged him. "Take care of yourself."

He hugged her back, giving her a gentle squeeze. "I will. You too, alright?"

"I'm not the workaholic in this equation." She kissed his head, then let go.

"No but you're a relentless mother hen," he deadpanned as he headed for the door. "See you again soon, kid."

"Someone has to be!"
