Fic: Americans and Their Gods
I was trying to finish a fill for capkink, but this theme set batch for 1sentence was unfinished and it called out to me. I think I'm allowed to do this until my claim runs out.

Notes: This is a sequel/companion piece to American Thunderstorm and begins maybe a month or so after that ends, but it can stand alone as well.
1. Comfort
Steve squeezes Thor’s hand a bit too roughly right before they hop off the plane into the action.
2. Kiss
In the middle of an especially though battle, Thor turns to kiss him quickly before hurling his hammer at another squad of Doombots.
3. Soft
Every time they fall together after a mission, Steve has to remind Thor not to be gentle.
4. Pain
Steve never says anything, but he begins to notice the dark expression Thor wears after every time they face his brother.
5. Potatoes
“I do believe that French fries are one of Midgard’s finest inventions!”
6. Rain
Thor grins eagerly at the large, goopy puddle, ready to jump when Steve grabs his arm and drags him away.
7. Chocolate
“No, we are not trying Lady and the Tramp with a chocolate bar-I don’t even know what that means.”

Steve begins to live for those days in between missions.
9. Telephone
“Thor, stop yelling-the phone may be small, but I can hear you just fine.”

Steve eventually figures out how to turn the phone’s volume down to save his hearing.

Steve secretly swears that he comes harder when Thor grunts “Captain” instead of “Steve.”

During the early morning, Steve is most vulnerable, curling into the slightest touch and nipping at Thor’s neck.

“You killed it-you murdered the cell phone.”

Thor pulls him into the bathtub and nearly half the water splashes out, but they’re too busy to notice.

At this point, Steve is beginning to tell what kind of day it will be by the way Thor grabs him when they wake up.

Steve is used to nightmares, but this is the first time Thor wakes up frightened, clinging to him in a cold sweat.

“I don’t care if warriors of Asgard aren’t supposed to cry-just take the box of tissues.”

“Hurry, Steve, the cookies are burning!”

Thor’s hair whips around as he stares solemnly at the ocean, and Steve wonders how long it will take to get all the tangles out.

“You Americans are a wonderful bunch, but I shall never understand why you rid yourselves of your king-sometimes I believe you could use one.”

“Here-I don’t know how, but Tony fixed your phone.”

“Oh, aren’t you the lucky one, dear Captain?”

Their bodies are completely tangled up when Steve feels Thor’s hands shake, just for a moment, as they slide up and down his torso.

He knows he loves Thor’s new favorite snack, chocolate-covered strawberries, without ever eating one.

“Captain, have you ever asked my brother how long he will remain faithful?”

“Until Ragnarok.”
27. Blood
After one particularly rough mission, Thor’s wounds run like the Mississippi, Nile, Missouri, and Amazon Rivers during flood season.

Thor is the last person Steve expects to see willingly laid up in a hospital bed, but they’re all out of options.

As he sits by Thor’s bedside, Steve tries to sing his favorite Lady Gaga song, “Poker Face,” and somehow segues into “The Itsy Bitsy
Spider” instead.

“Out of all of them, I like the one on your shield best.”

“We’ll get you home soon, buddy-I mean, who’s going to make burnt cookies if you’re not there?”

It takes Steve a week of sleepless nights to figure out that Thor has been bewitched.

“I'll only say this once, Loki: I don’t care what you do to me, but just let him go.”
34. Lightning/Thunder
Lightning cracks across the sky as Thor steps out of bed for the first time in weeks, accompanied by an almost victorious thunder clap, or maybe Steve daydreams that part.

“How can six people be the same man-and why are they so enamored with tuxedos?”

Steve has to teach Thor that even though some food doesn’t come in boxes, it’s not a free sample.

“Attention: every one of you must sign up for this ‘Facebook’ so that we can officially declare ourselves friends before all the world!”

Steve is the only one who joins, and as soon as he’s approved, Thor sends him Pieces of Flair of themselves that people have made; Steve can’t decide if he’s flattered or embarrassed, but he hasn’t blushed so hard since before they woke him up.

“Don’t ever stop grinning again, Thor.”
40. Innocence
“Loki, don’t ever try pull something like that again; I may be old-fashioned, but I’m not that naïve.”
41. Completion
Thor finishes more slowly for a few weeks after he comes back, but Steve doesn’t mind at all.

“Not all of them look like hammers; some of them look like Mjolnir.”

“Thor, Steve, if you two don’t shut up, I will drag both of you up to the stratosphere and leave you there.”

The best nights are when storms roll through, when no cares how loud they are, and they absolutely lose themselves in each other.

“Sorry, Steve, Hulk accidentally got loose and smashed the ever-living hell out of your bed.”

That night, they curl up on the floor; when Steve wakes up, Thor’s already kissing the small lines of sunlight hitting his skin through the blinds.

On a not-to-cool night before the new bed arrives, they wander outside in the moonlight and wind up rolling around in the grass, all hands and lips, and legs…until Tony decides to play paparazzo.

Finally, when he’s absolutely sick of it, Tony sends Steve and Thor on an all-expenses-paid trip to Aruba for a week, where they lie out on the beach every night, when they’re not called off to rescue the islanders’ cats from trees.
49. Hair
Thor wanders off one afternoon and comes back with his hair braided and beaded; Steve laughs, and tells him it’s an improvement.
