A rare political post.

I think my political leanings are pretty obvious to most people - posting the LetCaliforniaRing video, for example. But in case you've been living under a rock, I'm VERY liberal. I'm queer. I'm pro-choice. Generally, that means I vote Democrat, although I do pay attention and if there was a fairly liberal Republican who I felt was a better ( Read more... )

Perhaps if we weren't already in the wash of a disgusting season of relentless sexism and Hillary-bashing..this Palin thing would have come and gone. But frankly, this just adds another layer onto the already brimming double standard. A lot of women are already pretty angry at the way they've been pissed on. They don't care about how indignant you all suddenly are about a "woman's place is with her child." I know you all all mean well, and you care deeply about issues involving women and family, it just comes off as a bit disingenuous in my opinion. Oh, not like you were going to vote for her anyway, but ( ... )

Here's the thing: I DO think women and men are held to different standards, rightly or wrongly. I DO expect more from a woman in this sort of situation because it IS new for women to be in these positions, and how can Palin not be cognizant of that? And maybe that's wrong of me. If a woman is going to make it this far, I want her to be able to show the best of what women can be, show that she truly IS capable. Palin isn't showing that, IMO. Instead, she's showing her inability to balance personal life and career. I'm having a hard time with this, I really am.

I'm generally not a very political person, but what do you mean by She chose to put her career in front of her family at a very poor time, and call me a horrible person, but I AM judging her for that. Her daughter doesn't need this crap, and even if Palin had discussed it with her family, warned them of the scrutiny that would be coming, a teenager can in no way make that kind of fully-informed decision. Are you referring to the fact that Palin's teenager daughter is pregnant and would be so scrutinized or just the fact that she's a teenager? Either way she wouldn't be the first teen in the political spotlight because of a family member running for office. If you're referring to the fact that her daughter is pregnant and therefore shouldn't be thrust into such a spotlight because she's a teenager I'm not sure I agree with you ( ... )

I think that if it were one of Obama's daughters who was pregnant, he never would've gotten to the point of being the Democratic nominee. It's unfortunate, but I think it would've been FAR worse because I'm sure the majority of the country would've gone, "Oh, how typical - a pregnant teenage African-American." If it had been one of Biden's granddaughters? Not sure, but I have a feeling that would've gotten swept under the rug - same if it was one of McCain's granddaughters. Is it right or fair? Nope, but old white men are still the ones in power around here ( ... )

Sorry about that - if you looked at my icons, you should've seen that the majority of mine are credited. If I missed yours, it was an honest mistake. Do you go around looking for people who are using your icons or what? o_O
