So I was reading my Bible back from the beginning (mainly cause i haven't read it in a long time). I'm going through the "chapter per day" clause of reading, which is really beneficial for my spiritual life (while good, very absent in one particular area...). In the begining of your Bible ther should be a key to what the italicized words mean. I know every Bible I own has a key to what is going on in the begining.
