Snare

One time,
not long ago,
I caught the sweetest
little thing.

It was not the first
time I had seen
such a creature but
it was the first time
I had seen it in
such fabulous light.

I took it home and kept
it hidden under my bed;
I didn't want anyone
to know I had something
so precious.

I took it out one dreary
day to show it how
ugly the world could be
