Alex didn't answer for a second, but gave her a sort of hard-to-read look.

Eventually he spoke. "Sometimes." The sort of vague answer that didn't really tell anyone anything.

"About the island?" Momoko was stepping carefully, here. "I do have nightmares sometimes. From when I was in the war in Glacia."

If she dialed Momoko's phone, there weren't any kidlets around. At least, Momoko hoped none were sitting on top of the mountain she'd decided to rest at.

"Hey! You're up awfully early for a birthday girl!" Momoko put as much cheer into her voice as she could. "Or did you just have a long night?"

Everybody say hey to the birthday girl!

"No specific plans for later, but I thought I'd get some phone calls in to everyone first!"

"You mean check in to see if we remembered?" Momoko snickered. "Your gifts are in the mail and Jaime has steaks in the freezer in hopes you come visit to complain in person that they don't fit."
