time-wasting but entertaining Oofuri meme!
I stole this from ramen_rules amd just spent like the last hour composing my answers. Yes, I am in many ways a dork, thanks for noticing.
1. How far have you read in Oofuri? (this is important so anyone reading your answers knows whether spoilers may exist!)
I've read through all of the available scanlations, and then I've read all of narwhaltorte's summaries/translations, and then I've seen all of aflyingteapot's selective summaries... so I feel more or less caught up, as much as I can be considering I can't read Japanese myself. Yes, my meme answers may contain spoilers for everything.
2. What made you decide to start reading/watching Oofuri?
Hmm. I actually watched it during the first season's original run, as it was being fansubbed. My problem was that I got myself caught up to like episode 12, but then would have to wait for more, and I knew already that the games were going to take FOR FUCKING EVER and so I stopped watching, with the intention of picking it back up once the first season was complete. And by the time I did that, the fandom for it was pretty much done, so I just chalked it up as a really cool anime series with a lot of rewatchable potential, but at that time didn't get into shipping or anything. It was only recently with the advent of the BRIGHT SHINY SECOND SEASON that I really got into it as a proper fan.
3. Of what you've seen so far, what's the best scene in the series?
From a pure visceral standpoint, the scene where Haruna drills a baseball directly into Abe's chest really stands out to me... the way Abe crumpled over and the noise he made as he fell were super well done. It's a small and actually pretty terrible moment, but it's such a wonderful bit of animation.
My personal favorite scene from the anime, though, is the one where Abe and Mihashi are sitting in the dugout after dark, just before the game against Tosei, and Abe is trying to get Mihashi to learn all of the Tosei batter's data. It's just a doomed enterprise to start out with, and it's such a great moment showing their interpersonal relationship... I like it all the more because it isn't one of those "big" scenes, not like the hand holding or anything. And Abe's face when he says "Hello, Wake up, please" is just soooo adorably irritated. AND HE KICKS THE BENCH. And then Suyama, Sakaeguchi, and Nishihiro worry about what is going on and fret about whether they should intervene or not. Also, that scene kind of proves that Abe really had no idea yet at how seriously Mihashi was taking the whole "don't shake your head at my signs" prohibition... why would Abe care about whether Mihashi knew what the batter's preferences were if he planned on making all of the decisions without question? Abe's internal monologue is also a cute example of him falling in love even more with Mihashi, since he starts musing about "trust" and how it makes him soooo damn happy.
In terms of "best scene in the series," though, I grant that award to the manga, when Mihashi is all "C-can I touch your muscles?" at Haruna. It's so... it fills me with so much delight! I can't even take it! That whole chapter is my favorite chapter to date.
4. Who is your favorite character? Why?
Even though I am falling in love with Haruna more and more every day, Abe is still my unquestionable favorite. He's such an OCD freakish little troll! I love him!
5. Are there other characters you love? What do you love about them?
Seriously, who don't I love? That seems like the more relevant question. And maybe I'm exceptionally tolerant, but it's hard to think of anyone I truly can't stand. I even like Roka, who is unquestionably a dick of the highest order, because he seems like such a tsundere at times, the way he crosses his arms and pouts, and I can't help but think that Kawai (the Tosei catcher) would loooove to take him in hand and teach him some (very loving) lessons.
But let's see. Favorites.
Mihashi, of course. Oh, Mihashi, the other half of my Oofuri OTP! He works so hard! The pathways of his mind are sometimes so inexplicable and yet are often so simple! He is in love with everyone!
Haruna. SO MUCH UNEXPLORED TRAUMA. Eventually, I will post a defense of his awesomeness.
Mizutani. "Is this the power of spirit?" My favorite single line from just about anyone in the series, except for "C-can I touch your muscles."
Hanai. I AM ROOTING FOR YOU, CAPTAIN. You'll beat Tajima someday!
Sakaeguchi. I love, love, LOVE how he taunts that one Bijou pitcher with his little faces. He's just so quietly perceptive and amused by everyone. I think he's also one of the most mature people in the series.
6. What's your favorite pairing? Why?
Abe/Mihashi. I'm not going to explain, I already wrote an entire manifesto to do that for me.
7. Are there other pairings you'd like to recommend?
Hmm. Recommend? Izumi/Mizutani, especially as written by factorielle. Hanai/Tajima, just because there's a great deal of fanart and a good amount of fanfic for this pairing. Haruna/lots of people... since I love Haruna and want more people to write him, for serious. Kawai/Junta, for some ;__; Tosei love. Oda/Kanou, which hits that tsundere kink of mine square in the face.
8. Which of the teams has the best pitcher/catcher relationship?
The best? Not my favorite? Okay, Mihashi/Tajima. They might not have the greatest strategy together (Tajima is a little overly in love with Mihashi's full strength fastball), but they have the unquestionably most healthy relationship out of all of them I've seen so far. Both Mihashi and Tajima are really good at supporting each other, and it's good to see Tajima work at something he's not instantly amazing at.
9. Of all of the pitchers in the series so far, which is your favorite?
MIHASHI, MIHASHI, MIHASHI. It's hard to imagine anyone else who comes close.
10. Of all of the catchers in the series so far, which is your favorite?
ABE, ABE. ABE. Ditto my answer for #9.
11. And infielders/outfielders?
I'm going to take this question from a purely baseball POV, and how much I enjoy these players in the game.
So, of the infielders, I think I'd say Oki. Oki is quietly a really steady first baseman. After Oki, I'd say Suyama. Shortstop is probably the most important infield position and he like Oki really shines in defense.
Of the outfielders... Hanai. Him and his strong arm. And that foul ball he catches early in the Tosei game... awesome.
It's hard to answer this question for any team besides Nishiura. I enjoy Kaguyan as an outfielder but mostly because he's able to moon over Haruna's amazing ass from back there. Besides that, I can't really think of anyone who stands out for their fielding from the other teams.
12. Do you have a favorite coach?
The Tosei coach! He cracks me up. Plus, he really works it. Despite not knowing anything about Nishiura going into the game that they eventually lose, the Tosei coach is able to get a pretty good read on Our Heros from fairly early in the game. I love how he calls over every batter in the early innings to go over their at-bats. "Jiiiiiin...."
13. Who do you think is the best batter out of all of the characters you've seen so far?
Tajima or Aoki (from Tosei), I guess. ramen_rules also brought up Daichi from Saitama... but we've never really seen him up against a strong pitcher (most of the time Abe Mihashi just walked him), so I'm not sure about him yet. But he IS undoubtedly strong.
14. What would be the ultimate "dream team", based on the characters you've seen so far?
Oooh, fantasy anime baseball!!! You'll note that I'm taking this question waaay too seriously. None of these picks are random!

Hamada, well, because he's good friends with everyone! Sakaeguchi, since he is quiet, friendly and fun... he'd be just about exactly my speed and so would probably be my best friend. Mizutani... I'd have the hugest friend-crush on Mizutani. Ruri, for my best female bud of the bunch-- she seems like she's be fun to go shopping with, and I bet she knows all sorts of juicy gossip (but she wouldn't be the mean kind of gossip... just very knowledgeable!) Rio would also be the kind of person I'd love having as a friend... I'd love to tease him, just like everyone else does! Ichihara (of Sakitama) would be my total snark buddy. Takii (coach of Bijou) would be my big Older Man Crush (okay, we're assuming I'm back in high school for this exercise) and I'd prolly trail along after him like a little puppy. And to round things off... Kaguyan! Kaguyan and I could commiserate about romantic failures or whatever together!

Oh, Haruna for sure. Is there anyone he DOESN'T piss off at some point, accidentally or not? I love him but he's just kind of too into having his own way and his whole "you noticed that?" bit of shock-amazement whenever someone points out some little factoid about Haruna that they know (eg, when Kaguyan mentions his 5cm of growth, or when Akimaru brings up the fact that he recognized Takaya's name from back when Haruna was in the Seniors, or when Haruna overhears Mihashi telling Abe that Haruna is a GOOD PERSON)... well, that's kind of annoying, isn't it? I'd find it annoying at some point and so if he pulled that on me I'd be all, "yeah? so? you wanna make something of it?" and then we'd glare at each other for a while.
20. Which character(s) would you like to have as your team captain?
For maximum fun and amusement, as well as some degree of actual leadership skills, I'd pick Izumi. Izumi would not be an IDEAL captain since he prefers to grumble about shit from the sidelines, but if pushed into the role I think he'd have a no-nonsense don't-bullshit-me approach to leadership that I'd respect... plus, he'd be the right mix of HARD ENOUGH but NOT TOO HARD. He'd make sure everyone was busting their ass at practice but would also be careful to make sure no one was overworked.
21. Which character would you want for your boyfriend/girlfriend?
The person I'd end up forming a hopeless crush on would be Abe. I'd be like Shinooka, just admiring him forever and never realizing that he's just Not Into Girls until I'm in way too deep.
But in terms of actual dating compatibility? The right mix of sexy, fun, and caring? Sakaeguchi. ALL THE WAY. He'd be the best boyfriend ever!!!

Tough! I want to be realistic, and if I'm being realistic, that rules out tons of them, since there is a heavy preponderance of gay in most of the teams. So let's look at my friends list from a couple questions back. I think the most likely one out of all of them would be Ichihara, my snark buddy. I think he'd end up being a good fuckbuddy but in the end it just couldn't work out for the long term, because I'd never take him serious as a prospect for partnership and he seems like the type that, once he's had you, he gets over you... in the end we'd just go back to being friends and it would be like nothing had ever changed.
23. If you were dating that person from the earlier question there, which character would be jealous of you?
If I were dating Sakaeguchi? Hmm. It could be none other than Suyama! I'd be stealing HIS secret crush who is also HIS best friend... a double whammy!

Tajima! He seems like he'd be resourceful. He also comes from a farming family so I imagine he's good with woodlore and country-boy shit, which is necessary if we needed to escape from the cities and make our living off the land. Tajima is also really good with a bat and so I think he'd be a good fighter, too. His attitude is very positive and cheerful, and you need that if you are going to survive armageddon intact. Plus, if the human race is mostly anhillated and we need to make a stab at repopulating the human species, he'd be my choice for the person with the most desirable genetic stock to pass on to future generations. He'd also make a good dad if we had to have babies together!
