Comet McNaught

Tonight (Jan 12th) is the last night for naked-eye viewing of the brightest comet to be seen from earth in 30 years. Just after sunset, still in the sun's glow, very close to the horizon will be comet McNaught, which is now between the earth and the sun.http://

I was too stupid to write a note to myself, and promptly forgot to go look (whine) even tho we had a great viewpoint from our upstairs window, apparently. :I bleah. I've seen some AWESOME pictures of it though... spiffy. Maybe tonight I can catch a glimpse of it! Thanks for the heads-up!

Last night was perfect here in Seattle; hoping for a repeat tonight!

No, but only because I didn't know to look for it. Last night at sunset it was absolutely clear to the west. I was even watching the sunset through my kitchen window, doing the solar adoration from Carmina Gadelica (the one Crowley ripped off and turned into Liber Resh), but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. If I saw the comet, I presumably mistook it for a cloud or a contrail or something; I wasn't even aware of it happening until Herongrrrl saw it on some web site or another last night, long after it had set.

But we're less than an hour to sunset now, with only very sparse cumulus over the Olympic peninsula presently, so hopefully we'll get a good show tonight.

Actually, the essay I was thinking of was quite several pages long. I don't think I've seen this one before, but it's really cool too!
