This is inexcusable. What the article doesn't say is that if the shipping industry were to slow their vessels to 10 knots generally, any revenue loss would be more than offset by the fact that at these speeds you can take advantage of wind and gain a solid 10% to 15% savings on fuel costs

The shipping industry's logic is right up there with the US Navy's logic for using high powered sonar in SF earlier this year. *Whines* "But the technological gains and homeland security gains far out weight the environmental risk, we SWEAR!"

With this logic I could take a US map, press the edges together so that I can "skip" the midwest and travel all the way to the east coast in no time. That doesn't work either!!!
