Someone plagiarized my NejiHina essay

May 17, 2008 11:42

I feel disappointed today. :(

I've just found out that another NejiHina fan on Deviantart supposedly wrote this NejiHina "essay," except a third of it was direct copy/paste from my own essay, another third of it was direct para-phrasing just with bad English. And with that in mind, she had the guts to brag about how She wrote all that, without ( Read more... )

Are you going to report it? Plagiarism isn't well accepted on dA, I'm sure if she copied you her posts will be deleted.

Hey, I didn't know that you started looking at my journal! XD Welcome!

I found out the fact when I posted a comment to one of her fanarts. She called me "AMAZING ESSAY PERSON" which was kind of nice, so I decided to look into the rest of her journal. But when I did, lo, what do I see? Here's an example of part of her post:

first, Its not necessarily true that Hinata views Neji just a big brother, in Japanese culture callin some one, with the suffix, "nii-chan" "nii-san" or even "nii-sama" does not necessarily mean you can percieve a sisterly-brotherly relationship, for example, Konohamaru calls Naruto "Naruto-ni-chan." Also, in the Tea country anime filler arc, Sasami blushed heavily at the sight of her cousin, whom she also referred to as nii-chan. In Asia, and in Japan specifically, "brother" can be a semi-generic familiar term much like how in the west, people can refer to an old person as "that old grandpa ( ... )

That's just sad. =/ And yes, you probably need to report it.

Hey, thanks for the support! :)

I'd rather not report her if I don't have to though, I want to see if she's a decent enough human being to apologize for the act on her own and settle the matter. If not, I don't think I'll report her, but I'll certainly make her act known. :\

Problem solved, I guess. =\ She claims that she saw it posted on some Spanish site that said "go ahead and use it" and didn't know who wrote it. Bah, she's removed it at least.

Glad that it got resolved.

That excuse sounds awfully thin, especially if you're the AMAZING ESSAY PERSON. And like you said, you should still give credit for borrowed work.

Unless she offers to give you credit I say report her.

Stealing ideas is still plagiarism. I could get kicked out of my college if I intentionally used another person's reasoning to support my thesis without crediting.

Hey, long time no see! *__*

First I'll leave a comment in her journal, then I'll give her a week first to see what happens.

The thing is, I don't want people to get the impression that NejiHina essays are being removed because they're being targeted by NejiHina haters. :\ Then I'll just have to go =.=;; as people console her and whine about those "NejiHina haters."

She's removed it now. She says it was posted on some Spanish site that gave the go-ahead to use it, so she pretended it was her own writing to fend off flamers. No, I think that justified nothing, but at least she's removed it now. *rolls eyes*

I'm glad! :D

I've been gone a long time, but I'm clawing my way back into the Naruto fandom and I was glad to see a few updates from you. I believe I recently found a fic of mine that was inspired by your InoChouji essay and I posted it on FF.net because I've not uploaded anything there for ages. It made me realize how much I miss that fandom.

I'm way behind canon wise, but I'll be back up to speed in no time. Then I have to rewrite old fics to be accurate in terms canon that happened after I wrote it. All the while I'm juggling fics from two other fandoms. Let's not forget school. And y'know my real life...

But I missed you and your smarts. Somebody needs to do for Death Note what you've done for Naruto. Let me finish some fics first and then I'll think about it...

I am sure that when you report people, they do not really get punished for it - merely their piece is no longer available.
In addition, you might be able to make a note to administration, saying how you're ok with her if she sites her sources.
But either way, I think you're being too nice; hard work should be rewarded, and if it isn't properly, let's all go back to sharing of labor and ideas and communism. In it's worst sense.

^^

That's not it. If her work gets suddenly removed like that, she may cook up a drama about people hating NejiHina thus attacking her awesome essay, then I'd have to go =.=;;; and watch as people comfort her and side with her against this "evil hater jealous of her writing skills."

You see what I mean? I've already sent her a message, and I will see if she responds to the issue on her own first.

(another thing is that my essay is rather long. I kind of don't think the mods would be too happy having to look through it)

Problem solved I guess. She claims that she didn't know who wrote it and that she found it on some Spanish site claiming anybody could use it while searching for doujin.

That really doesn't justify taking credit for someone else's work, but at least she's removed it. -_-;;

My goooosssshhhh. This is another reason why I dislike the NejiHina fandom, SO MANY PEOPLE COPY/STEAL/PLAGIARIZE. Gosh, go ahead and type NejiHina in the DA search box and SAY that there is nothing there that ISN'T traced, stolen, or whatever! waerpoiupolciuadsf. I hate them so much, seriously. Can't we go back to the time when we were kinda obscure?!

This is why I'm not very active in the fandom D:

It's That bad now? D: Gosh, I didn't know that. I guess it's a good thing then that I haven't been paying attention either.

The reason I'm not very active in the fandom anymore though is that the fanworks have taken a nosedive in quality. It's so hard to find a good fic anymore. I still love NejiHina, but I do have other fandoms so...

N-not really, it was like that for a long time. We should just kinda ...stay half in there for the stuff that's actually original and half out so that we won't have to deal with crap.

Haha, what other fandoms do you have~?

Aaah, yeah.

Well, on the Naruto side, my main 3 pairings on NejiHina, NaruSaku and LeeHina, though I don't actually do anything much on the LeeHina side, I just like it. Usually I'm periodically switching between NejiHina and NaruSaku on the fandom I'm most active in at the moment. Otherwise, I do non-pairing fan-studies and essays.

However, I have a few other "fandoms" that can also help pass the time, one of which is "linux." :P Not coding, but I like looking up things and drop the occasional idea.
