Dark Angel Fanfic Recs
Yes, I know, this fic journal is largely about VM - after all, that's all I seem to be writing as of late. Still, since I've been delving into the DA fandom (in terms of reading fanfiction) as of late, I thought I'd post my list of recs (that I've found thus far) here, versus flocked at my own journal. I'll update this post every now and again, when I find more good fanfics, so ... stay tuned, I guess. :)
All of these spoil through S1 and at least through part of S2. I'm sorry, but Alec-centric fanfic (and thereby JAckles-centric fanfic) is my ... addiction in this fandom. Lots of this is Max/Alec, but I'll try to specify pairings and such, so far as I recall. :) And I'll specify heat-fics too, of course.
Word of warning though - the grammar and spelling in some of these pieces are not as impeccable as I (for one) tend to prefer, but it's not that bad. From the looks of most of the fanfiction I've read thus far, there seems to be a lack of good betas in the DA fandom ... I'll try to denote those that were ... troublesome (for me) with an asterik (*), so those who are totally put off by that sort of thing (largely issues with typos, homophones, tenses, etc.) can avoid them.

Alec - The reaction of Alec and his unit after Max names him in 2x01.
Anything and Everything - Logan somehow manages to infect Max with the virus, making her very sick, very fast. Alec will do anything and everything to try to save her.
Before I Sleep: Chimera - A new transgenic on the block causes chaos for her fellow freaks. (a sequel is in progress, also at FF.net)
Being 494 and Being 493 - An ... interesting take on the truth behind the hottest transgenic around and his orthadontia-inclined twin.
Best Laid Plans Series - Three complete "novels" (author's term) and some one-part stories that chronicle the M/A relationship after the S2 finale. The first 2 novels (and the one-part stories) are good, but I have some issues with the third. So if anyone finishes the third and would be interested in helping me deal with my issues, that would be much appreciated. (yes, I acknowledge that I have issues .... ;)
Breeding Partners or Not* - What if Alec decides to follow orders in 2x01? It has the standard FF.net level of grammatical ability (i.e. cringeworthy), but it was amusing for me, at least.
Carpe Felis Series - Max goes into heat around Alec ... and the aftermath.
Choices - Max must choose between Logan and Alec.
Escape and Evade - What if Max never made her speech at the end of FN? What if instead of barricading themselves inside Terminal City, the transgenics scattered and fled? There *is* a sequel, but it's unfinished, and I don't have the patience to wait for things to be updated like that. You need to register at the board to get the links, but if anyone is unwilling to do that, I could certainly c/p the links into the comments or something. :)
Friction - When Alec’s little slip-up sends Joshua out to seek vengeance for Annie’s death, it’s up to Max and Alec to get to him before White does… and not kill each other in the process. (involves Max in heat at a point)
Genetically Empowered - 'Freak Nation' episode rewrite and virtual S3 - Um, what it sounds like. You need to register to see the links, but I would be willing to link this one up in the comments as well, if there's a call for it.
Gettin' Busy - Max and Alec have a "little talk" with Joshua.
Gift Bag - What better way to find a present for someone than to steal it?
Left Behind Series* - What if Max hadn't been able to escape in '09 and had been left behind by her unit? The first story in the series (Left Behind) follows Max through the first years after the escape. There are actually 4 more stories in the series that follow either M/A (two of the four) or the other transgenics (including Biggs) around them with (naturally) mentions of M/A in context. The final M/A fic isn't complete yet, but the others are done. The lack of betaing/proofing in this one is annoying, to say the least, but the concept is one that I haven't seen elsewhere, so I think it's worth a look, regardless. :)
The Moon Series - Lots of stories involving transgenics in Terminal City, with a Max/Alec undertone. Must be registered to see links, but - again - I'll link them up in the comment if there's a call for it.
Ninety-Five Bottles of Weer on the Ball - The perspective of a drunk Logan during the end of "Hello Goodbye."
The Opposite of Lonely (series) - There's no official name for this series, so I just used the title of the first (of four) fics in the series. Basically, Max comes to a realization about her realationship with Alec. (1 2 3 4)
Perfectly Matched* - Alec knocks Max up at Manticore, and they escape and deal with the fallout. Must be registered to see the links, but I'll link them up in the comment, if there's a call for it.
The Sound of Breathing - Max has a favor to ask of Alec.
Sorry - Max has a moment of weakness. Alec has angst.
Subterfuge - Max is always too quick to judge.
Then It Comes to Be - The Coming has arrived, and the transgenics and the familiars battle for control of Seattle. (followed by After the Coming, which requires registration to see the links; as a warning the sequel very much paints Logan as the epitome of all evil - just in case you have issues reading that sort of characterization)
Tough Call* - Max goes into heat and gets pregnant - but not by Alec.
The Void - Max says some things she doesn't mean, which yields some very unexpected results. The formatting and style of the piece isn't my favorite, but the concept (and the angst, admittedly) appeal to me. Only as a "what if?" though, mind you.
When I'm With You* - Alec finds the cure for Max and Logan.
