I tried to feed my snake today and my mouse exploded.

Any stories of feedings that did NOT go as planned?

Nooo. I left them to thaw for a couple hours, then put 'em in some hot water for about 15 minutes before I was going to feed snakey so they'd be warm. It was a hopper and a fuzzy (don't know what size she 'likes' so I was going to try both), pulled 'em out... and the hopper's side had a hole in it and there was blood and grossness alllll over the plastic bag. Eycuh. D:

Oh ouch D: Iguanas are nottt an animal I'd want to be mistaken for food by.

Mice should never, ever go in the microwave, that's not really a good practice for exactly this reason. o_o

I didn't put it in the mircowave, because I know that is an issue along with uneven heating and etc etc. It was left out to thaw and then put in hot water to heat it up.

Thawed a large mouse for a royal python a few years ago. Warmed it up, dangled it in front of him, like you do in a normal feeding... until he hit it so hard he ripped it out of the tongs, flew across the tank face-planted himself and the mouse into the side of it.

I had popped mousegut goo *everywhere* including all over Hungry!Angry!Snake, and I had no safe way to check his mouth/teeth until he got what was left of it down.

I nearly gave up snakes right there. It was >shudder<.

Oh gross!

I tried to with icky!mouse on the off chance of it being stinky would make her more interested... yeah. She still wasn't interested in it. I tried with second mouse and accidentally brained it with my tongs. I was saying bad words by the time I was done. It would have been worth it if she ate, but NOPE. I think she's going into shed again which is probably/most likely the issue. Is it normal for a snake to go into shed about three weeks after the last time?

And I checked her tail and she DOES look like she has one sharp scale at the end, but its super tiny because she's super tiny at this point.

Babies shed more frequently than adults. 3 weeks seems reasonable.

I'll let my Other Half know to check out this post and the other about your little girl. If you can get a good pic of her tail tip it'd help. :)

I've had a mouse explode on me a few times while thawing. It means it was thawed too long or too hot. Even though my stove top has a "warm" setting, I still have to keep a close eye on the thawing.

Well, since my only reptile is a terrapin, my weird feeding moment isn't nearly has entertaining. I was feeding him some raw meat, which he adores, and a bit too big for him fell on his tank. He literally jumped to grab it (anyone who says turtles are slow never met my little guy). I was afraid that he'd choke on it so I tried to grab it from him. And thus began the most ridiculous thug-of-war ever, between a grown woman and a 2-years old terrapin. :-| Eventually he decided biting me was the way to make me let go of it, which he did.

Then he wouldn't let go of my finger, so I ended up with a turtle hanging from the tip of my index. My bf found it hilarious...

I have 8 snakes, and not as many mishaps with feeding as one would think. No rats exploding or anything like that. My ball pythons are some of the most agressive feeders I have. They are almost scary. One of my female ball pythons mistaken my fingers for food one time when I was putting her back in her tub after a feeding. We have since been feeding them in their tubs. They have mistaken the tongs for food and tried striking the tongs instead of the rat. My female blood python is the derpiest eater ever. I timed her once spending 30 minutes trying to get a rat down sideways. Now I have to dangle the rat in front of her and she will open her mouth for me to gently put the rat in. That is going to be fun when she is 25-30 pounds and 5-6 feet long.
