Have an albino corn snake as a classroom pet(probably hatched around september/october, home for the summer). Right now I have him in a 20 gallon long tank with mesh lid, held down by tank clips from Petco. I don't think corn snakes really get all that powerful. I have a ball python, which is a considerably more muscular animal, and he's done fine for years with a set of tank clips. I couldn't tell you the brand anymore, but if you can't lift the lid I guarantee you the snake can't either.

As long as no amount of shifting the lid up/sideways will allow for an opening with the locks on, you're fine.

Every so often it shifts sideways (if i cant get the clip tight enough), not up and down, but i cant fit even a paperclip through.

I think if you can't open it a corn snake won't be able too.

What grade do you teach? My daughter's 4th grade teacher has a few reptile classroom pets and it got a lot of kids over the fear of snake and lizards they got from their parents. (she had a ball python and a bearded dragon).

If you're really worries about it, when moving to a 40 - get one that has a sliding lid. Petco will normally have then go on sale around x-mas time or early January for ~$70.
After one of my Kings got out for a few weeks I don't chance it anymore.

I have the second one, and that's exactly what I do, bend them so they fit tight. Every so often, this ONE CLIP doesnt fit 100% perfectly so i 'll look into getting the first set, ty!
