While I strongly support the HRE = Germany theory, until it is 100% confirmed in canon, I'd go with keeping it ambiguous, mainly because Germany doesn't know that he's the HRE, so playing him that way would make sense. The fact that it makes sense in history should really be a sign that it is true, but keeping one's options open isn't a bad idea.
I thought your answer to the latest question was good. It didn't say that he was the HRE, but the possibility exists :)
Thank you for the input! Though the question I referred to was one a little while back that I had pulled the Germany = HRE bit. Which in retrospect made me go -- "Uhh.... Should I have done that?"
Oh! I hadn't noticed that question. I don't think it's a bad thing to have done, but probably future references could be a little more subtle... though that answer did make me flail a little.
.. w..where did those fanarts come from? ldksjfa; they are SO CUTE i nearly melted of squee
It was before the holiday flood so I'm pretty sure it just got drowned out before many people could notice it. I-I hope it did make you flail in a warm and fuzzy way?
Oh god..To be honest I don't remember who, but someone I knew who didn't even like Hetalia found the first and the third one (Blood+ and Hetalia mix = Automatic win) and was like--Look at these!
Um, well, I say that you should play him as though he were HRE, but as if he doesn't remember, or in other words, keep doing what you have been. I know that's probably not very helpful, but just though I'd comment about my "Stay ambiguous" vote...
You're welcome! Ooh, I seriously hope so! I really want Germany to be HRE though. *Will be devastated if Germany isn't HRE*
*Blushes and flails* Aw, thank you so much for saying so! *Will also stop fawning over it, but only in about a year at the earliest. Fawns over it with you in the meantime*
I agree with Japan! \o/ Personally, I don't think the HRE is Germany, though I'll need to look into that a bit more. One more reason to hit the state library!
I think Himaruya just wants to keep us all in the dark for this one. Forever. Because honestly at this point the argument could go either way I think. xD;;;
Oh, god, this is long e__e;;esquimaoJanuary 10 2009, 18:28:46 UTC
I would keep it ambigious because Germany was and wasn't HRE. If you want historical accuracy then HRE is not Germany. Sure, there is some evidence to support the fandom such as the fact that

Fffffff. No worries. I love me my long comments. :'DherrdeutschlandJanuary 11 2009, 17:01:09 UTC
Gotta love history. It can make any argument for Hetalia valid or invalid. While I remember most of my western civ. I sort of wish now that I'd studied more Germanic history...But alas, my historical heart belonged to the Crusades and the Byzantines.
Personally I'd like to think HRE = Germany as well, though like I said in my initial post, I'm a stickler for canon when I try to answer for him. So what I think is sort of pushed to the wayside for now.
What is for sure is that regardless of whether or not HRE = Germany, everyone's favorite wurst fan did at least inherit the NO SMILING EXCEPT WHEN THE PLANETS ALIGN policy... And the SIDEBURNS.
Ah, that's great [/feared Blitzkreig or something]esquimaoJanuary 11 2009, 17:14:22 UTC
Oh, the Crusades <33 Yes, gotta love me some history. I only know this because I'm in European right now and honestly, I was pretty sick during the HRE chapters so I'm sure I'm missing some information. Personally, I'm a US-nut. [/nods head sagely] I don't think anyone will know what happened to HRE in the series until Himaruya makes something official because HRE is like... the embodiment of an identity crisis and debating it is just gonna get crazy. >___>
There was something I noticed about Liechtenstein when she was mentioned in that question. xD In the manga theres like something about Switzerland finding her and taking her in, and she has her hair in braids at that time. From what I got of it, it seemed like she was missing her memories/past too... somethign weird like that, i wasn't sure what to make of it. So when that person was like Liechtenstein = HRE too... I thought of that. xD
I do think Himaruya is keeping it ambiguous though, so... I'd just keep going with what you were. Of course you can't stop the fan-influence, so since someones popping out going "Hey, you're HRE!(maybe)"
I'll ask my friend too though, she's a history major, with a focus on religion. If anyone will know she will. xD
Himaruya is clearly out to make the fans debate on this one. Either that or he never expected a gag-manga to cause this much speculation. Probably a bit of both.
Mmmm, history plus religion = the stuff "I am not making this up" material is made of.
