That's so awesome to have a first edition of Gone with the Wind!! I remember watching the movie with my mom, just to hear the famous "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn", and it was right at the end, and sooooo lame. :P
Right! In the book, the ending is WAY more uplifting--like, you know Scarlett is going be okay after she cries about it for a bit. The best line in the book is right at the end: "She could get Rhett back. She knew she could. There had never been a man she couldn't get, once she set her mind upon him." And the thing is, you totally believe her :D
I just finished The Time Traveller's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger and I LOVED it. I was sobbing my eyes out (with a bit of laughing out loud in between). That was one of the most original writing devices/style/exposition/whatever the term I've ever seen... it reminded me of how the film "Memento" stood out.
I read anything I can get my hands on, for the most part - I read too quickly to be particularly picky.
There are a few books on this list that I love, many that I intend to read one day, and quite a few that I have zero intentions of reading, ever.
I'm with you - who cares what people are reading, as long as they READ! So many people don't read anything beyond the TV guide these days, and that makes me a little sad. :x
Little women is one of my favourite books! My other favourites are on there as well (Anne of Green gables, the Secret Garden).
I'm not really big on novels, but I've read about 14 books on that list (surprising). I've seen more movies on that list than I have books.
I'm mostly too lazy..and I don't want to end up wasting my time if the book turns out to be utter crap ^^;.
That's why I would prefer to read the 'classics'..seems like a better chance of it being worth reading :x.
Right now, I've checked out 'Dream of the Red Chamber.' I really haven't read a novel in years, but I picked that one up because it's supposed to be one of the best classical Chinese novels ever written.
