My best friends I've known since senior year of high school; I don't think I could ever find myself somewhere where I felt that way.

Americans value independence a lot. Deep down we want to have that kind of closeness with people, often times we convince ourselves we have it, and a couple even get it, but once things get a little sour in the relationship, we can't handle getting hurt by someone who means that much to us. We don't know how to handle it, so we listen that little voice in the back of our heads that says "Mistaaaaaaaaake!" and we let ourselves grow distant from that person, convincing ourselves they weren't all they were cracked up to be. Because of this, we never grow past the stage where these kinds of relationships feel clingy.

In short, Americans are really bad at that kind of friendship you're talking about.

hey hesh, i understand where you're coming from. i wont say i completely understand, but in many ways i can relate. The way people interact back home is extremely different, partly due to uniform societal standards and partly because we were all raised to build intimate relationships whether it be with our family, or friends, or a neighbor down the block. The communities back at home are not just formed by weekly meetings, having to schedule everyone in on your calendar. anyways, i do believe that you will be able to find people like that here. people who actually understand the values of friendship, and if not, we need people who do understand to show that a deeper meaning of the relationship does exist. its difficult to execute because we too have succumbed to societal norms here in the states. but inside we all want it, we all want the time to chill, sit back with our friends, instead we take breaks during study hours to write about it in our journals :) anyways, hit me up -Ivy A.
