Score! Somehow I got two Remixes this year! And they're both so, so excellent -- I feel incredibly lucky. I've already sent raving incoherent feedback to both of the authors, but they deserve more love:
North (Gather Me Up Remix)Harry Potter, Harry/Ron/Hermione, remix of "North"
I love this story primarily for adding to the total of wonderful Ron-POVs in fandom. Ron doesn't always have the words to explain things, but he's got the actions. Beautifully in-character, and also the story remembers that in a way, it's really his world the other two, being Muggle-born, are fighting this war in. Great, in-character sex, with a much more hopeful ending than the original.Ron always remembered how he told Hermione and Harry that there were seven hundred ways to foul in Quidditch and players weren't allowed to see the full list as they might get ideas. Harry's eyes grew wide behind his glasses and Hermione had gone off checking Quidditch Through the Ages to make sure he wasn't putting her on, always doing her research. It mystified both of them. "So you don't know," Harry had said. "If you've broken the rules."
Mortal Taste (Theodicy, the Lilah Morgan Remix)Angel, triple AU after "Sleep Tight" (when Wesley did you-know-what), remix of "Theodicy"
The author did something incredibly brave with this one and created a whole new AU to the original story, focused on Lilah and Angel and how Lilah might have contributed to the fall-out. Awesome characterization. The story also fleshes out the theological themes I'd only played with, in a way the show deserves (and should itself have done better), AND actually brings the whole thing closer to canon. I think it's something more than a remix: it's absolutely fearless, the way it manages to become its own dark, thoughtful tale."What? I'm taking theology lessons from a vampire now? That's not the point. I'm telling you. Eve was a player. Adam got played. You look at it in a certain way, and he's a victim."

I also heard from the author whose story I remixed, and it seems she liked it! Yay!
I'm really loving the mystery about who wrote what -- I feel like I'm in the middle of a three-way relationship (hey, wait, don't run!) with the person I remixed and the two people who remixed me. We've just done this incredibly intimate thing of rewriting each other's stories, climbing inside someone else's creation, seeing what made it tick so we could build it another way, and there's been all of this anticipation leading up to the opening of the archive, which has now culminated in me showering the above two authors with love, and basking in the glow of my author's happy feedback. Only it's still anonymous, so there's an illicit little secret admirer thrill about the whole thing that just feels very, very...interesting. (g)
I may have more serious thoughts about the remixing process once the authors are revealed next Sunday, but for now, shoo! go read!
