It's not even that male characters like that are accepted unquestioningly. Some of them have, you know, active fan support and self-declared online wives and shit. See, e.g. Severus Snape. I like that there are pockets of the Internet who call Skyler "queen" and "HBIC" and all of that (mostly ONTD) as at least that provides some balance, even if it's probably a bit shallow

Yeah, I'm generally wary of trying to interrogate or assume author intent, but I still think it's interesting to hear what they have to say. In Vince's case, he just hasn't had that much to say about Skyler and I'm curious what he'd say if someone questioned him at length about her. But maybe I've missed something -- I've read and watched a ton of his interviews, but that doesn't mean I caught everything.
Bottom line, I don't think it should be an question of getting or missing the point of her character -- I think Vince, like most writers, would disclaim the idea that they were using her to make a point at all. He'd just say that they're trying to write true-to-life characters who are believable and dimensional people. But
