I was going to comment on how awesome that is, but instead I'm distracted by how Kristin Kreuk is wearing the exact same concentration-frown expression in every single screencap. *g* I didn't watch this show because the premise was just so dumb and it got terrible reviews, but if it survives past this season I will check it out for this.
LOL, it's her go-to SRS BSNS face, yes. She also frequently breaks out the incredulous and/or relieved smile face. But overall, I do think she's improved since her Smallville days.
It's very strange: the female partnership is, to me, the most interesting and strongest aspect of the show. But obvs it just can't actually be about that, can it? *sigh*
Heh, I see it this way: if we can watch Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl for seasons on end, we can definitely watch this show. ;-) It's no worse than any other CW crap, IMO.
The latest ep (1x03) had some really excellent female partnership moments, which is what prompted me to finally pull this post together.
It's been on my to-watch list forever. I think because the ratings are so terrible, I kind of keep expecting it to get canceled and then figure I'll just watch it as a whole, contained show. I did like the original La Femme Nikita back in the day....
(The main thing that's held me back is tremendously shallow: the lead actress is so skinny that whenever I saw promos, it took me back to the days when SMG looked way too scrawny to do her fight moves on BTVS. /o\ )
Yeah, I admit that when I first heard Kreuk was going to play a detective, I was um, skeptical. But she's definitely improved over Smallville, and I find her believable as a young detective, anyway, which is interesting in itself. And re: what you said about female characters only solving things physically -- the awesome thing about this being a crime solving show is that she and her partner are using their brains, and their training, and trusting their instincts, etc. There are a fair number of chase and fight scenes too, but I think it's balanced.
Understood re: Maggie Q. I saw her in whichever Mission Impossible she was in and I can tell she's got training and is physically fit for her frame. It's really just a shallow initial recoil. Heh.
Hah, I don't blame you! I felt the same before I started watching. But I think she looks good chasing down suspects, and they do her fight scenes really well, and I've got a weakness for female law enforcement pulling out their guns. So, that makes it work for me.
Thank you, my dear! It's starting to rock and roll over here but I'm pretty confident we've got all we need for a couple days. Fortunately we're in as about as good a location as we can be for power grid infrastructure type things, so I'm hoping we benefit.
