This is so gorgeous! Carrot is very handsome (and this is coming from somebody who doesn't go for redheads), I love Angua's expression and hair, and the coloring is awesome. Also, Carrot really looks scrubbed and polished. It's just so nice to see some Discworld-art.

Thank you! I don't go for redheads, either--they go for me, unfortunately. I didn't think I'd have time to color this, but I'm glad I did.

Oh really nice! I love how dignified Carrot looks and Angua is gorgeous. You colored it really well.

Yay! Another Discworld fan!

I've got The Art of Discworld, and I love it, but I don't love how Kidby portrays Carrot and Angua. Actually, I've not seen a lot of art that makes either of them look very attractive-which is odd, because Carrot is supposed to be handsome and Angua was good-looking enough to qualify for the Seamstress' Guild.

I prompted this, and oh wow yay. So awesome! It's so pretty, and I love their chainmail and Angua's collar, and the style and coloring in general.

Discworld art, yay!

Discworld anything, yay!

I have to thank you for requesting it. I've never done Discworld anything, though I'm awfully fond of the books. It was a fun project, and I finally got to properly protest Kidby's art.

Wow! Discworld art! Carrot is how I imagined him to be- he looks very dignified and upright and honest. Angua looks particularly sharp- the best I've seen her! She doesn't look very alert in her "The Art of Discworld" rendition, and very unlike how I imagined her. I like how Carrot's gaze is direct while hers is off to the side. Also also also, I love their footwear and the fact that they're standing on cobblestones! <3

I know! Discworld art! It's as hard to come by as Discworld fics. In my experience, at least.

You're the second person who's told me Carrot looks like the Carrot of their imagination. I think Kidby made our boy look like a thirty-five-year old UPS driver, not a handsome king-in-hiding. And Angua... was it just me or did she look sort of like a strung-out junkie? He made her sort of hollow-eyed and gaunt, in my opinion, not like an attractive young woman. I just... ugh! I don't think Kidby does women well. Though, he's pretty genius with the pencil.

It is indeed very hard to come by, so I'm glad you've made some! [dances]

And YES. Kidby's Carrot looks a bit too old, though I do like the wide-set, honest eyes. The more I look at it, the more I think Kidby was trying for the hard-working do-good copper look, which he achieved. It probably doesn't sit right because the Carrot in my imagination was more handsome! You're right about Angua. In the books she's such a dynamic and sharp character that it makes me wonder why she simply looks like a tired dullard (very unwolf-like!). Perhaps he was going for placid. I wonder if Kidby has just made everyone look more unattractive because Ankh Morpork is...well, Ankh Morpork!

I think you're right about Kidby's treatment of Carrot, but the biggest disappointment about Carrot was his hair. He's in the Watch, for Pete's sake, not the modern-day military. I just can't see anyone letting an Ankh-Morpork barber get that close to his scalp, even someone as trusting as Carrot.

I also think Kidby's greatest strength is exaggerated facial features. He can do craggy, weary, cunning, unamused, insane, but I don't think he can do good-looking--which explains Angua and Susan. Oh, man--Susan. I was probably as much disappointed in Susan as I was in Carrot. She happens to be my favorite character, and his Susan was NOTHING like my Susan.

Hee! While I realize it's an integral part of the joke, I've always hated their skirts; this is a much more believable rendition of Watch getup.

I also agree with jabberwocky; the official rendition of Angua always looks a little stoned to me, so it's nice to see her a bit more on the ball. Points for remembering her collar, too, though I suspect a badge would be a bit bigger.

You're never satisfied! If you really want to pick, there's no way that choker could fit over a wolf's neck.

There. I just outed Kidby and myself. We utilize magical expanding collars in our art.

It is Discworld; if they've managed to come up with brassieres and sonkies, I bet they've come up with some sort of spandex analogy. (Honestly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the naugha turned out to be a native Uberwald species. :>)
