Title: Romano’s Christmas Joy
Characters: Spain, Romano
Challenge: Bingo Challenge 1
Square Filled: Last Christmas
Rating: PG13 for Romano’s potty mouth
Summary: Romano wonders if taking care of a sick Spain is better than last year’s party…

For Jen with love…

Romano thought about last Christmas and sighed. He did not know what was worse; this one with Spain sick in bed, or last year’s with Feli and all their friends. While having his brother visit during the holidays was nice in theory, in practice it meant the potato bastard would be there, along with his brother the albino bastard, and naturally the pervert bastard could not be left out… The whole thing was threatening to make Romano’s head explode.

He angrily stirred the minestrone soup, while grumbling to himself in Italian. As bad as last year was, Romano was starting to feel that the noisy idiots and all the fussing and entertaining was preferable to the quiet, non-holiday feel to the day. Near quiet… he corrected himself when he heard Spain sputtering and coughing from the living room. Getting a tasting spoon form the drawer, Romano dipped it into the soup. Bringing it to his lips, he sipped it. Perfetto! Now to get Tomato-bastard some…

Getting a bowl from the cupboard, Romano placed it on a tray with a chunk of home baked Italian bread and a spoon. Bringing the tray over to the stove, he filled the bowl with the soup. A bit of freshly grated parmigiana cheese on top later, Romano brought the tray over to his sick friend. This was actually nothing new to either of them, Romano having nursed him back to health during Spain’s pirating days, as well as during wartime and natural disasters. It was what they did for each other.

“Eat up, Tomato-bastard,” Romano said gruffly as he placed the tray on his friend and lover’s lap.

“Gracias,” Spain said; his voice soft and raspy from his cold. He sipped the soup, the warmth soothing his sore throat, and smiled. “It’s good.”

“Grazie. I’ll be right back. I’m going to get myself some.” Romano turned and started to go.

“Wait, I’m not that sick that I need lay here like an invalid.”

Romano sighed. “Fine, but you do know that it’s almost Christmas Eve and if you’re still fucking sick, we can’t go to church?”

Spain nodded. “I feel fine, I still have a bit of a sore throat, but my fever’s gone and…” He coughed,

“Idiota! You stay right the hell where you are and I’ll be back with a fucking tray!” Romano swore, before storming off. He refused to believe he was also getting sick, because if he was, then Christmas would be ruined. Feli would hurry over, potato bastard in tow along with the albino bastard and everyone else. The last thing Romano wanted was a repeat of last year. He sneezed just as Spain entered the kitchen.

“Awe… is my Pequeño Tomate getting sick too?” Spain hugged him from behind.

“If I am, it’s all your fucking fault!” Romano huffed.

“Sorry…”

Romano grumbled softly in Italian. Maybe having Spain look after him was not so bad after all. It would certainly make up for a repeat of last Christmas.
