[Part 7] Somehow This is Better (10a/?) anonymous November 14 2009, 04:20:50 UTC
Original Request: In which America is not -in accordance with canon, really- oblivious to England's feelings for him at all, but rather, pretends to be because, despite how much England tries, America just doesn't love him in a romantic way, but doesn't want to hurt him with the truth.

Anything with this background concept, anons~

Bonus: I'd prefer if this didn't end in America suddenly realizing that "he's always subconsciously loved Iggy 8D" because I hate that cliche sooo much, and am rather tired of stupid!America having to make it up to poor-ikle-UKe!Iggy

Bonus: If America actually has feelings for someone else, but because he does love England (just like a father or a brother) and knows it would hurt him, he decides not to pursue a relationship with them. Or anything all bittersweet.

Part 1-9: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/10960.html?thread=20918736#t20918736 Alfred leaned back against the balcony, looking around at the party guests ( ... )

Of course, hell hath no fury like a nation scorned, and it would be nearly fifty years before Ivan would even talk to him again. Alfred couldn't help but feel like he wasted that time, because he still couldn't come to terms with his feelings. He still couldn't tell Arthur he didn't love him the way he wanted him to ( ... )

If Arthur said anything else, Alfred didn't hear it. He was too busy taking in all the details of the figure that had been made for him. Did he say that Arthur was handy with a block of wood? He meant to say that he was an absolute master ( ... )

You see that puddle of goo over there? No not that one, the one next to that polar bear, yes that one. That, that is my heart. It melted after reading this. And if you want it to come back to life you better take responsibility and finish writing this >:<

But seriously, I love this. I can't wait for the next part :O

Eeeeyup! 's gonna be really difficult...Oh no, now I'm worried Alfred's not going to come clean and chicken out, yet again! Please continue!

The party was still going on, but it was quiet at the bench that Alfred had led Arthur to. Arthur noted that Alfred looked incredibly anxious the whole time, keeping his eyes trained straight ahead of them ( ... )

"Of course I love you. I raised you: I clothed you, fed you, taught you everything I could. And yes, we fought and you left me. But isn't that how life goes? Children get older, and they have to make a life for themselves. You...it hurt when you left, but I never stopped loving you..." Arthur found the words came easily to him. As he listened to himself speak, he knew it all to be true. Had he misinterpreted his own feelings all this time ( ... )

*Happy sigh* I love this story more and more with every chapter I read. I like the simple way you write, and yet there is a little of poetry in its simplicity.

Leaving the srs!commenting aside: asjlfhjldghfsj!!!one!11eleven! ♥♥♥

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I've been enjoying exploring how the characters think in this.

Can I ask though, what makes you say it's simple? (I'm not offended or anything like that, I've had professors tell me all the time that I don't waste words, and I don't use a frilly writing style, etc., but everyone always has a different reason for thinking so and a different reaction to it, and I try to take things into consideration when I'm writing to improve myself.)

Let me see if I can explain it correctly, since english isn't my first language and the word "simple" in my head might have a different asociative connotation.

The way I perceive your writing is as something clean and fluid, mostly. That others have tell you about not being frilly, well, you certainly aren't unadorned, but you rely on simple sentences to get your points across, succint and poignant when needed.

When Artur realizes Alfred loves him but only as a brother, and then you top it off with: The emptiness was heavy. That is one of the clearest examples I can give you. You didn't need to go off on a tangent to make me feel it, to move me. It's simple, in the way every day's little things in life are, but doesn't make them less important.

Ack! Forgive me for going into this sappy pseudo answer, writer!anon

I think it does have a different connotation, given your explanation. Simple is usually interpreted as "easy" and therefore "simple-minded," which can therefore mean that there's not a lot of thought involved.

I'm glad you are enjoying it so much, and I will have the last 2 parts up hopefully by the end of the weekend. ^_^

Thanks for reading, and thank you for the explanation. It was a great help.

"I don't want to hurt you again, Ig--Arthur. Not again. But, I can't--" Alfred stopped and swallowed. Why couldn't he just spit it out already. I can't love you. He had said it to the mirror all morning. He had been waiting for Arthur to come; to have this talk. Why couldn't he do this now ( ... )

It didn't take long to find him. He was still standing in the same place he had been, talking quietly with Yao. Alfred swallowed a bit and licked his lips in nervousness. Sure, he had been leaving hints and signs for him, but 60 years was a long time to make someone wait. Would he still return the feelings? Did Alfred still feel them, or had he really fallen for Arthur after all this time ( ... )
