You know, I never noticed how well of a crossover this would be until today

Taming of the Shrew/Hetalia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Taming_of_the_Shrew

And you can genderbend the Italy's to make it more accurate if you'd like

Baptista - Rome
Katherina - Romano
Petruchio - Spain
Bianca - Veneziano
Lucentio, Hortensio, and Gremio = up to you, anon

It's one of my favorites of Shakespeare, so I'd love to see your take and how different it'd be with Spain as Petruchio ;3;

A/N: This is going to be my first APH fic, and it’s also my first time writing most of these characters, so please pardon any sloppiness! ;;;

I'll be using human names. But as for Rome and Germania, they’re gonna keep their names. Just because I can’t think of alternative ones for them that work. C:

It won’t be very Taming of the Shrew-esque at all in the beginning, but I promise that the elements will be incorporated as the fic goes on. But, also keep in mind that I’m not aiming to make this identical to its source. It’s my own take on the play, but I’m sorry if I offend any Shakespeare fans out there with my interpretation.

Thank you, and enjoy!

Dead silence sat heavily in the room, save for the sound of everyone’s jaws dropping. At the head of the table, Rome continued to wear his crooked grin, seeming unbothered by his own shocking announcement.

Then, after a long and awkward moment, a single voice broke through the thick lull.

“You’re retiring?!Outside the towering skyscraper, a black Rolls Royce finally managed to escape ( ... )

Arthur poured himself a full cup of water from the cooler, leaning against the wall with a murderous expression. This expression did not lighten in the slightest as he noticed Francis walking towards him with an insinuative smile.

“Haven’t I told you,” he spat, “that showing your bloody face around me could be the last mistake you make?” He downed his water as if it were hard liquor. What he would give for alcohol right now…“Ah, is that what you say to someone who has simply come to comfort you?” Francis gave a wink as he poured himself some water as well ( ... )

His brother seemed to be giving him waggling eyebrows and a smirk that could not have only one meaning. Ludwig gave a heavy sigh as he pushed the elevator button. “What is it, Brother?” he asked, though he was sure that he didn’t want to know.

Gilbert tried to look innocent (which never worked out). He started singing casually to himself as they entered the elevator, the words going something like, “Ludwig and Feli, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G…”

Ludwig frowned as he picked up on these lyrics. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he muttered curtly.

“Are you kidding me?” Gilbert looked honestly surprised. “You haven’t been that nice to anybody since… well, ever. You’re saying you have no interest in the kid? At all ( ... )

If you don't know the plot of Shrew, you can read this (minus the first paragraph):

Loving this fic so far! I have read The Taming of the Shrew before, and now that I think of it, Feliciano and Lovino fit the roles of Bianca and Katherine scarily well. (Though Spain, unlike Petruchio, would probably "tame" Lovino by simply being too nice and dense to be fazed by Lovino's spats...)

I actually like that you're not adhering scene-by-scene to the play; it doesn't feel like you're shoehorning characters into the roles, and the Germany/Italy bits were utterly adorable. Can't wait to see Spain's appearance, and if you somehow manage to include something similar to the Most-definitely-NOT-dressed-for-the-occasion Petruchio + I-DON'T Katherine wedding scene in a later part, I'd love you so hard.

I was watching 10 Things I Hate About You and I was thinking that too. Then I found this prompt and I was like "I HAVE TO DO THIS."

Thank you!! I'm glad you like that, because I wasn't sure whether to write it scene-by-scene or to write it freestyle. In the end, I decided to stick to the basic chronology but not by scenes, so I'm glad it worked out. :D

And that's one of my favorite parts, so I'm definitely gonna try my hardest to work that in. |D

I love this so much! I love your takes on, well, all of the characters, but especially Romano! And Francis' plan to "distract" him... well, I've read the play and seen the movie, but I'm still really looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

Update soon, pretty please, oh fabulous authoranon?
