How I met your father anonymous August 12 2009, 00:52:51 UTC
America is putting one of his littlest states (your choice) to bed, and the state asks about his/her rarely-seen father. America launches into the story of "how I met your father", spinning it as very fairy tale-esque and romantic. The catch is that in flashbacks we see that the events leading to the state's conception were very sad/skanky/tragic/cracky, as anon prefers.

:D Oh, thank you!! I was FREAKING OUT writing this, mostly because this was only the second Hetalia fic I'd ever written!!

Anon also wants to visit Hawaii. I've heard it's very pretty there, and research on the internet probably doesn't do it justice.

I was so tempted to name State!Hawaii Lilo. :D
And Alaska!Sequel is in the works. It'll be less sad, more cracky.

I looooved this. Completely gorgeous and sad and and and gaaah so great. But now I feel like the fic I've been working on for the fill is inadequate at best. D: Does anon mind if I still try to finish my fill for it anyway? The thing is, I'm working on an Alaska one, too... *BUT* it's very dark and unpleasant, not even remotely cracky.

I don't want to step on any toes, so I thought I'd ask permission before charging ahead. In any case, I can't wait to read your sequel fill!

I just need an idea for the sequel now...So you go first!!

....ReCAPTCHA is 'caroling winter.' Why is the internet trying to inspire me?

...But that was AWESOME! Awww...little Hawaii-chan...so sweet. Alfred knows how to end stories nicely. ^^

Are you really working on an Alaska sequal? I'd so love to read that!! I hope you're able to get a good idea for it! ^^

Okay, so I am NOT the same anon who wrote 'Hibiscus', so don't go into this expecting the sequel to his/her amazing fic! This is my first fill, first Hetalia fic, and first fanfic in probably 3 years. It's a triple crown of fail, so please bear with me!

What to expect from this: unpleasantness (like implied rape), Alfred being a lying liar who lies (albeit for solid reasons), fun with tenses, and potential critical history fail. So, without further ado...“There you go, buddy,” America says, tucking his youngest son snugly into bed. The room, lit only by a night light, is awash in a shade of warm, dusky orange. Long and deep shadows lurk in the corners where the light cannot quite reach, banished far away from the bed and its precious charge ( ... )

“Once upon a time, there was a war that covered the whole world. During that war, there were two major sides. The members of one side were the Land of Pasta, the Land of Sausage, and the Land of Rice...”

Italy. Germany. Japan.

“... while the other was made up of the Land of the Eagle, the Land of the Dragon, the Land of the Unicorn, the Land of the Rooster, and the Land of the Bear.”

America. China. UK. France. Russia.“During that time, the Hero of the Land of the Eagle and the Czar of the Land of the Bear were in a strange situation. Both rulers had very different ideas on how to run their governments, and both believed themselves completely right. Furthermore, the Czar of the Land of the Bear had become possessed by a horrible monster called the Red Demon years before the war started at all. It haunted him, and whispered terrible ideas into his head day and night. But with the war to distract him, he could mostly control the beast, and the two rulers were on the same side. And they had fallen in love, though both were too ( ... )

“One day, the Hero was in a frost-covered garden visiting with the King of the Land of the Unicorn, trying to discuss the war. The King had some other matters to attend to, and their meeting was drawing to an end. What neither ruler knew, however, was that the Red Demon, who had gained so much strength and influence that he could separate himself from the Czar and move about freely, was lurking nearby. Unseen, he waited until the King departed, and then proceeded to hiss an evil, magical curse. The Hero fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.”

“Ow!” America cried, reaching down to rub at the sudden spasm of pain in the back of his right thigh ( ... )

“Although it was true that the Red Demon could now move on his own, he could only travel so far away from the Czar, his primary host. The Czar, who was good at being sneaky despite his great height, was in the same garden. His official reason for being there, the justification he repeated to himself, was to spy on the King and Hero, hoping to uncover war secrets. In truth, he just wanted to see the Hero at all. The Hero wanted to do the same, but he was never very good at being subtle.”

“The Czar sensed the dark magic the Red Demon had performed, and rushed to where he had felt it. There he found the Hero in his cursed trance with the Red Demon looming above him. 'We had a deal when I summoned you!' the Czar cried. 'If I let you have me, you would leave him alone!'

'Deals are made to be broken,' the Red Demon hissed. 'Besides, when I return to you, you'll just want to do what I want to do, anyway. In any case, I win.' The horrible creature laughed before it faded into a cloud of smoke, which drifted over the Czar and entered his ( ... )

The first thing America knew as he regained consciousness was that somebody was biting his lower lip. Not enough to draw blood, but enough to sting viciously. The second thing he knew was that, even though he could feel the pain there and elsewhere, he could not move or even speak. His mind began to panic, but he couldn't even hyperventilate ( ... )

“But the Czar's choice had an unexpected effect. You see, magic in general has a funny way of working, with love magic being especially tricky. In most cases, the kiss just wakes up the beautiful princess or, in this strange case, the brave hero, and that's that. 'The end', 'Happily ever after', and so on. However, there was so much love magic needed to prevent the Czar from listening to the Red Demon that it formed another gift.

It wasn't long after the incident in the frost-covered garden that the Hero discovered he was going to have a baby.”

It was July 7th, 1958, just over three months after the incident with Russia, and America had just gotten out of a meeting with his boss. After a long, strained conversation wherein America had lost track of the number of times he had heard the phrases 'Are you sure?' and 'Did you double check?', his boss had signed a sheet of paper ( ... )

“The Hero loved his baby from the very moment he realized it existed. He had many other children, and was exactly as thrilled to be welcoming this little one as he had its brothers and sisters. Everything proceeded smoothly, and his days were bright and happy despite the endless cold.”

“Finally, on a calm winter's evening just after the New Year, the Hero gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. As soon as the child was born, the Hero could see that the Czar was the other father, and he was overjoyed. His son had the Czar's same distinctive nose and eyes, though the few curls of downy-soft hair on the baby's head implied that its color would be closer to the Hero's shade of blond.”

“Although he wanted nothing more than to show their child to the Czar, the Hero knew that it was far, far too dangerous to attempt such a thing while the Red Demon was still on the loose. It was a difficult decision, but he chose to do all he could to prevent the baby from ever meeting the Czar. However, as the leader of a large and powerful Land, he did nothing to hide the fact that the child now existed.”

“It's really coming down out there,” America murmured, looking out the window at the heavy, windy snowfall outside. He was propped up by a tall pile of pillows at the head of the bed, looking bleary-eyed and exhausted. For good reason: ( ... )

“Time passed, and the stalemate between the Hero and the Czar continued. Eventually, however, cracks began to form in the Red Demon's grip on the Czar and others who had fallen under his influence. It was a particularly chaotic time for them. Finally, right around Christmas, the Red Demon was officially banished, and the people were freed from his wicked grasp ( ... )

America looks down on the peacefully sleeping face of his son, not knowing when the child had drifted off. “Was my story really that boring? You probably got that attention span from me, kid,” he whispers, grinning. He kisses the boy on the forehead again, carefully standing and tip-toeing from the bed to doorway. “Goodnight.”

He turns and collides with well over six feet of solid Russia. “Jesus!” America hisses, grabbing his chest over his rapidly beating heart. “Don't do that! Who let you in? When did you get here? Wh ( ... )

Something about this one seemed more "fairy tale"ish than most stories meant to go in that direction. Incredibly lovely; instead of claiming a triple crown of suck you should give yourself a triple epic win. ♥
