Even by Finland's standards, this particular January is bitterly cold. Even his men, with their skis and their camouflage and their warm winter clothes, are muttering to him in passing. Simo likes to comment on it, gruff and businesslike: "You and your weather, Suomi. Too damn cold"
Except he's not really complaining about it. None of them are. They'll take whatever assistance they can get.
He crouches out of sight, invisible against the snow, and frowns at the tanks in the distance. Russia's still making no effort to hide them or his soldiers. There's a motti not far from here - a little pocket of the Red Army in their dirty-green uniforms, cut off from the rest and huddled together against the darkness and the snipers.
"I suppose the cold doesn't help," he says out loud.
There's someone next to him who wasn't there a moment ago. Finland recognizes his sudden bone-deep shiver for what it is and doesn't look away from the soldiers.
The motti has a tank. He can lure it into the woods and jam its gears with logs. He's getting good
