Hmm... This Anon REALLY wants to do this (Not enough Russia/Germany) but c-can you give a bit more background? I've gone through my text books and can't see to find this "Schroder-era"..

Schroder (the German chancellor before Angela Merkel) was on excellent terms with Putin, and Germany and Russia were important partners during his two terms in office. Consent is dubious because quite a few (although not the majority) of Germans were really, really worried about getting this much closer to and dependant on Russia. If you need a concrete example, look at Nordstream and the respective reactions.
