Cold War paranoia [America x Russia] anonymous January 5 2010, 01:53:37 UTC
Long time lurker, first time poster, so do tell me if I'm doin' it rong.

Original Request: Um, I feel like this is a weird request but....

I want America at the height of McCarthyism. I want him to be a total paranoid mess. I'm talking paranoid, germaphobic, and emotional. And I want an enemy during the time period so I guess Russia to find out about it and use it to pester him, though not too badly.

Bonus: They, unintentionally, take it too far-- even for the time period.

Holy moley, dear OP, I happen to recently have started a fic that fits the bill! Let me show you it...

He had been attempting to do four things at once: listen to the radio, drink crappy instant coffee, read the paper, and forget about the work he had to do. None of these were a rousing success. He had decided to invite Britain over for lunch, so that at least having someone else to talk to would give him a distraction. Britain had been surprised, but had agreed and had shown up in a few minutes ( ... )

Britain laughed again. America kind of hated his laugh. It was pitchy and pretentious, a literal a-ha-ha-ha. "You're hilarious today, my friend ( ... )

America was, after he thought about it a bit more, skeptical of the doctor idea. Did psychiatry even work on nations? Was there even a doctor willing to treat them? But Britain assured him that France knew a guy who knew a guy who was willing and able, and after what had happened that day America wasn't about to argue. He still didn't know if he had meant what he had done. It was at least worth figuring that out ( ... )

America forced himself to breathe normally. He could beat this. He could beat anyone. Wasn't he the strongest of them? This should be easy. This shouldn't even have been a problem in the first place. “Yeah. Th-that's the issue, that right there ( ... )

oh wow, anon. I really REALLY need more of this.
I love the way you write America. Perfect mix of asshole and insecurity IMO.

Also love how the other nations say they want to 'help' America but are more worried about how his possible instability might affect them, rather than actually caring about him. Also liked how casual England acted after America tried to kill him - it seems the sort of way a nearly-immortal nation would react to that sort of situation, in my mind at least. Probably happens more often than we think.

That said I'd like to suggest putting a space between each paragraph. The long wall of text gets a little hard to read on the internet. But even if you choose not to I'll still keep reading because it's a lovely fill. Please keep it up!
