This was too delicious to pass up... Ah... I hope you don't mind a second fill
"Oh, say can you see..."
The thick smoke was blinding. Tears of hot ashes raining down upon the city. As frightened New Yorkers could do nothing but watch...
"By the dawn's early light..."
At 6:00 AM, it started. Aboard two unwitting flights, a plan began to unfold. A plan to rock the world, and bring arguably the strongest superpower to his very knees.
At 8:46 AM, the first plane crashed.
"What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming...?"It had been the tallest tower to date. He could distinctly remember the call, made at midnight of course. That annoying voice screeching loudly into his ear, so excited... so proud

1972- The WTC became the tallest building in the world. Ending the Empire building's reign.
The building bellied out in flames- Not an exact quote but close enough to an eyewitness who filmed the event
"Oh God... they were in the dust... we were breathing them in... our co-workers... our friends... they were in the dust..."- I went to a 9/11 museum/memorial and I remember distinctly reading this quote. It's not accurate but the meaning is still the same
"Lady, there's two of us in this office. We're not ready to die, but it's getting really bad."
"I understand sir. We're trying to get all the apparatuses there."
"Oh, please hurry."- A live phone call to 911. A man trapped on the 105th floor.
"Oh, say can you see..."

"And the rocket's red glare..."
A second plane crashed.
The building bellied out in flames. Still trapped in the hellfire, some leaped from their windows.
There was no hope either way.
"The bombs bursting in air..."
A river of smoke crawled down the length of the tower. Pillows of
ashes and dust rising into the air. Fallen clouds from heaven.
The tower collapsed.
"Oh God... they were in the dust... we were breathing them in...
our co-workers... our friends... they were in the dust..."
In the aftermath that followed, one man kneeled. As people rushed
about him, crying, screaming, dying... He sat frozen in his place.
His children. Oh god. His children.
There were mothers there.
There were fathers there.
Sons, daughters. Brothers, sisters.
They were his children.

And now they were gone.
